Baseplates for BrikWars
OK, guys, let's finally do this poll.
Because baseplates are very important and I wanna know who has them but doesn't use them.
Pros of battling on baseplates:
-More attractive to view
-Easier to deploy troops (carpet floors can be unstable for minifig feet)
-Means Non-dimmydom.
If you don't have them but you wish you did, go grab one. Hurry. Even if it's just one. And do all your next battles on it. And then get another one. And your battlefield is bigger. Now you won't stop. And people will like your reports.

I have a copious collection of baseplates, but isn't it kind of hard to have a trans-parlor battle when you need to laminate the floor with baseplates? I just use small ten by tens or whatever for squads and let vehicles run without using baseplates.
Sometimes I put baseplates around structures and cover to further encourage the infantry, but any vehicle-heavy match doesn't really need an awful lot of them.

Were it that simple...

base plates are expencive, the ones from bricklink are even more expencive if you want older ones!
a 5 by 5 layout of base plates from lego costs quite a bit.

How's that compression ratio?

^^^ that's kindof a lot, man.
Personally, I prefer the hardwood floor. You're not limited at all by space, and minifigs stand up just as easy on it.
How does a lack of baseplates promote dimmydom anyways?

Reports of battles without baseplates are boring and less fun than serious battles reports.IVhorseman wrote:^^^ that's kindof a lot, man.

I bet Natalya's battles wouldn't be as awesome if she didn't use them.

You didn't answer the question. What property do baseplates have that makes them "more serious" and "less boring" than those without?

Baseplates provide a easier deployment of troops, better build of buildings (especially after the start of the battle), and an overall view of better organization.
Non-baseplated floor should be used only as:
-Sea
-Instant death terrain
-Other environment that doesn't let minifigs walk straight or build
Of course, if you have a real mini-jungle, playing BrikWars on it is so much funnier because you can actually use fire and explosives without damaging any valuable LEGO pieces.
By the way, has anyone done this before? Real environment battles?
