Wikispaces is going down

Bad news, everyone - I just got the email from Wikispaces that they're switching over to educational wikis only. You're going to need to come up with an alternate plan for the LXF archive.

Did they tell you when?

I guess we should find another database for the .LFX files and start archiving the remaining content from the old wiki to the new one so that nothing is lost.

"Within 30 days" is what the email says.

Better get started then.

"or export the contents of this wiki for use offline or on another service."
Stubby, any thoughts on this?

Insofar as LXF alternatives- I have LXFs for the ships of all major factions neatly catalogued on my computer, with the possible exception of the super-new Scythian stuff. I suggest a Google Drive folder, Dropbox, or maybe trying to get our Mediawiki wiki to cooperate with us on LXFs.

I like Google Drive. And LXFs are relatively small files. Never used dropbox but I've heard its basically the same thing.

Suppose its a good thing we've already been working on transferring wikis for some time. Good foresight there, Stubby.

Stubby, is there any way to open up attachments on this forum to all users, so they can post them directly to the board like I do? Good neteqquette permitting.

It would seem like the cleanest solution, depending on your bandwidth (although I doubt the few of us out of the total board population that share files and build in LDD would hit you that hard, I just wanted to attempt to be considerate to your old self first).

Proposing a Wikia.com Wiki instead of using our normal one, as we can simply make pages stating the ships, or make one page with a huge fucking table.

While we could do that one the current wiki, Wikia.com is much less of a hassle, and the templates would still apply.

I think I will lead this coalition.

Well let's see how this works. I don't think I've ever uploaded a file directly to the forum before. If this works all right, then I might give file upload access to all BrikThulhumanati, and then you can create links in the wiki to the LXF files on the forums. (I don't want to give upload access to the general population, due to spammers.)

All right, looks like that worked. I've just changed the permissions for BrikThulhumanati members, so somebody with wiki access hit the "Upload attachment" button under the posting screen and see if you can attach an LXF.

Right, I'm at work training at the moment. But if someone wants to make a comment central archive thread (colette I'm looking at you, as you have downloaded most of the archives) then I will format it to look pretty and sticky it for future reference.

Stubbster, thank yee kindly you glorious bastard.

Next test: an image and an lxf.

Looks like it presents them in reverse order from the order you upload in. But this could be a quick way to include preview images of the lxf files.

If I've done this right, you should be able to attach 10 files per post.
