Protectorate LDD

Post by Battlegrinder » Fri Oct 10, 2014 3:55 pm

As family tradition forbids me from buying anything for myself between now and Manly Santa Day, I've decided to spend that time using LDD to plan out and pre-build some of the Frangerian Protectorate units that I'll be buying after the holidays, so I can refine the design and get feedback before purchasing.

First up are the Hammer Drones, mobile heavy weapons platforms that will accompany infantry. As size 2 creations, they can move and fire simultaneously, allowing them to keep pace with the troops. Yes, they are based on the ones from Iron Man 2.

I decided to base the Drones on the old brawler hardsuit, since I've used it in matches and found it be a solid design.

The ranged support drones come in two color schemes I'm trying to decide between. The orange/white paint matches the infantry I'll be using, but the Olive drab/sand scheme also looks nice.

The rightmost drone (aka the dakka drone) is armed with a size 2 machine gun, while the one on the left (aka the boomer drone) carries two size 2 missile racks. Each drone can also carry up to two additional weapons in its hands, though the boomer drone can't fire from both missile racks if it also fires handheld ordinance.

There's also a drone version configured for close combat, armed with a halberd and a shield, and is nicknamed the slasher drone. Unlike it's ranged counterparts, slasher drones are often deployed in mass formations of their own kind, instead of being attached to infantry units. Slasher drones will usually make up the the vanguard of any CC assault force.

I like the orange/white colourscheme best.
Only problem with silver bullets is the price of silver.

Really? I thought it looked kinda weak, but I'm glad you like it. Guess I might be building matching drones and infantry after all.
