Ambition's Reward
Closeup of the
Sanguine Brother mining the dead Ork's body for precious
RT.
Alternate View including Space Ork patrol, who have stumbled upon a craven coward defiling their dead.
Closeup of Space Orks. The renowned Chieftain Mezzenfret is near the river. His crony follows behind on the rough hewn path.
Overview of the confrontation.
"Damndest thing I ever saw. One of us must punched a hole through the Ork at the top of the falls, a'cause he were dead long afore he hit the water below. But that weren't nuthin special, see? One of them San-gin Bloodhounds dropped straight through the atmos and hit dirt jus' as that dead Ork were floatin' by. So this fanger gets out, right, and reaches in and plucks that dead Ork straight from the river. Drags him ashore and starts minin' his body then and there."
"No, way, yer lyin! In the middle of a fight? Come on!"
"I ain't lying, neither, no, sir. Them scavengers usually wait til after the danger's past, don't they? I know this. That's why I were surprised, see? Here he is, one of them Blood'uns, standing there bold as brass, pumping that greenskin dryer than a oil well under USA control, with bullets just as thick in the air too. Well, it were no more than a passing concern til that Ork patrol came over the bridge path.I thought to myself, I thought, self, now, you know that blood'un is gonna git right quick when he sees them warriors. But he don't, see? He done stood there careless as you please, ain't not a worry crease his brow, I swear it!"
*Collective Gasp*
"So them Orks, they're mighty irate, yeah? They start a hootin' and a hollerin' right across the rushin' waters. They's had guns but they musta run outta ammo or somethin' cause they were only threatenin' in the up close and personal way, you know? But that fanger musta known that greenieweenies don't much care for a bath cause once he were sure they weren't gonna fill him full of holes, he went right on milkin' their kin. Even looked the biggun right in the eyeball while he were doin it too. Swear on me studs, I do. Still, when them big toothed sons uh guns finally figured out a way down on the right side of the bridge a few minutes later, he beat a hasty enough retreat. Don't think I ever seen somebody move that fast. Gotta give 'im credit though...bigger sack than I ever did see on any of them other scavengers, ha-ha!"
*Chorus of Laughs* Then:
"Yeah, Jim? Yeah? And jus' where were you that you got such a good look at all the going's on and still got a head to swivel round and tell such stories? Hmm?"
"Don't question me! I were right there, in the thick of it. I done shot that purple hawked freak straight through the nostrils enough times to make a brain slushie! So don't you say nothin' to me!"
"And what about the other? I saw that Mezzenfret take out an entire company of our militia. You tryin' ta tell us he just...let you walk away?"
"Hell no, I had him outgunned and in the open, ya numpt. He musta decided the battle was better the other way, ha-ha!"
*More Laughter* Then:
"And jus' what were ya doing down past the bridge in the first place, Jim? Fightin' were the other way entirely."
"I...uh...BARTENDER, nother round for my comrades!"
*Collective Huzzahs*

As nice as this vignette is, my new favorite thing is the idea of mining casualties for RT. I hope this catches on.

If you wanted a higher score for photography, I would recommend rendering the photos prior to an upload, as it gives them a cleaner look.

For future reference, I'm not sure what this means. I just took a screenshot through LDD, dropped the result in Photoshop, cropped it to size, and duplicated the image a bunch to increase the visibility of the trans elements before uploading directly to flickr. What else can I do to make the final results better? Because I'd definitely like to do that. Though, I don't particularly want to climb down the POVray rabbit hole.

He means POVray. It's really not hard, I might make a guide because Vami is too lazy to google how to do it.

Against my better judgement, I went and figured out POVray. My dude, I have to say, so far, this shit really isn't worth it. I began rendering another unrelated project, significantly less complex and smaller than this one at 6am this morning. This bullshit is still rendering at only 61% and it's almost 2pm for me. I mean, the results of POVray (from what I've seen on Flikr and whatnot) are very, very pretty but over half a day for one simple render? Ugh. Any of you guys have any ideas on how to decrease render time? Otherwise, I'm sticking with my brick outlined LDD screenshots.

I have never used POV.
I use Lightwave.
Factors that effect render time.
Size of the image, - try smaller.
Computer running POV, Some rendering runs on the processor, other programs use the graphics card.
Since POV is so old I would expect it to be using the CPU. - use a faster / newer computer, not a laptop.
Macbook Air is not a render machine.
There are settings that can be adjusted but not knowing POV I wouldnt know which to recommend changing.
AA - lower setting
number of rays for global illumination - less
Some setting will need a higher number, and others lower, to get faster speeds.
Read the rules manual or search Google for faster POV rendering times.
Make a very simple test image, 3 bricks, see how settings effect render time.
Getting an 8 minute render down under 1 minute, then try on the thing you really want.
6 test render
7 test render
8 test render
Ambition's Reward is a fast final render.

POV also only uses one core - and I'm not sure if you could force it to use multiple cores or multithread it.
Also the way it uses RAM is wonky, it might as well not exist at all.
If you can find a way to port the files into something else (like tzan suggested lightwave) then let me know how it turns out. My last render took well over 25 hours.
After crashing twice.
