Introductions are in Order...
* - Who are you?
I am Richard the Mechanical, current leader of All-Bricks United, and head engineer of our armies.
* - Do you live with your mom? (Trust me, this is important)
No! Upon the discovery of my involvement with the rebellion against the Brick-Lord, and his reign of terror, my poor mother was executed. However, she refused to go down without a fight, and managed to eliminate an entire division of the King's royal guard using just her walking stick and dentures.
* - Where do you come from?
I hail from the fledgling nation of All-Bricks United - a democracy founded amongst the corpse of the Brick-Lord's tyranny! We rebelled against him for many reasons, not the least of which were his dedication to Rainbowism, and his subjugation (and mass executions) of all non-yellow Minifigs. We stand for the principles of egalitarianism, and while there are no surviving non-yellow Minifigs within our borders today, we hope to provide a safe haven for all, regardless of birth.
* - What is your quest?
To safeguard the borders of All-Bricks United, no matter the cost. Personally, I continue to strive to find whatever military designs I can. If I find some element that would benefit my forces in some way, I am not above duplicating it - though credit will be given. (Thank you, Google Image Search.)
Perhaps more seriously (but far more boring...)
* - Who are you?
John, though I typically go by Greatfrito online. This, however, seems more interesting.
Fun fact: I'm actually related to Strana (if I have the profile correct), as of this summer. I'm married to his cousin, which makes me his... cousin-in-law? I guess?
* - Do you live with your mom? (Trust me, this is important)
Nope. My wife and I own our house.
* - Where do you come from?
California. Originally South, but as of the last few years, North (the Sacramento area).
* - What is your quest?
To... play... BrikWars? Also to spell "BrikWars" however I damn-well please, and to run my games by -my- rules (consider them a supplement - I'll post 'em all at some point).
This is my substitute for "real wargaming."

Ok, so i have been lurking for some months already, time to introduce myself. I am 33 years old, from Berlin, Germany. About a year ago i got interested in Lego again but i was unsure wether it was really worth my time and money. Over here everyone seems to be either a collector or a professional model builder, recreating either trains or construction vehicles. The community is extremely pacifistic, too. How boring...
Then i discovered BrikWars, finally something reasonable and worthwhile to do with Lego bricks! Also it perfectly complements my other retro hobbys/interests, heavy metal and C-64 gaming.
So far i have only played a QuickWars battle with my girlfriend but recently i have found someone else with tabletop experience to play with so i am looking forward to play my first real BrikWar soonish.
Two questions: How do you make sure solo battles are not boring? Every time i tried i stopped playing after a short time because i knew what everyone was about to do already
What place do you suggest to upload my creations to? Brickshelf has this oldschool `97 internet look but on MOCpages i could ald least apologize for my poor building abilities.
Curse those pacifistic Germans! Every time I had a good idea at Lego, marketing would come back at say "the German mothers will never go for this, it's too scary." I'm not talking like multi-bladed death machines or torture chambers (I gave up on those after the first two years), I'm talking about things like adding a shark. I always had to make the case that enough Americans would buy a set with a shark in it to offset the lost sales from German moms who are scared of sharks. Damn those pacifists! They ruin everything!
Anyway congratulations on resisting this horrible philosophy.
Solo battles tend to be boring. You can make them a little more interesting by adding more dice rolls (e.g., "flank left on 1-2, flank right on 5-6, charge up the middle on 3-4), but really it's not going to help much. One thing that's starting to work really well for everybody, if they can't find local opponents, is to run forum battles online instead.

This is assuming that a) you a have digital camera at your disposal, and b) you can hook it up to your computer.Rayhawk wrote:One thing that's starting to work really well for everybody, if they can't find local opponents, is to run forum battles online instead.
