Kimi no na wa/Your Name
I don't care how bandwagony this is, this was fucking amazing and singlehandedly redeemed my faith in anime. Even my friends who aren't into or don't like anime paid money to watch it and fell in love with it, and one of them cried. There is no waifu because the animation quality itself is the waifu.

Never heard of it. Also not on Crunchyroll. Does it have a different name?

Also known as Your Name, it came out pretty recently (mid last year). I just saw it in theaters since today was the official US release.

Metropolis(2001)
I love this film. It handles robot-human relationships far better than overwatch's hamfisted attempts to mirror modern day race issues. The lens of cyberpunk and anti-fascism seems to have helped a lot

Oh, ok. I just recently heard about that. I was given to understand it was a deeply emotional experience.

Re: Metropolis(2001)
My younger self would disagree heartily. I remember despising it when I first watched it.
But, in my older age, I find myself questioning that. I know it's based on loosely on the 1927 film of the same name. Did I just dislike that? Or am I confusing elements from the two separate works? And hell, I don't even remember why I disliked it so much. In fact, I thought it came out earlier than 01. But I'm pretty sure I'm thinking of the same film. Honestly, I'm going to have to give it a rewatch so I can develop a mature opinion about it.

Isn't this the crappy remake of the German Post First War Avant-garde classic?

Re: Metropolis(2001)
Its based on both that and the 1948 anime book of the same name. Also in what way is it "crappy" Its not really a remake thoughCaptain-Camper wrote:Isn't this the crappy remake of the German Post First War Avant-garde classic?

Re: Metropolis(2001)
Yeah, I gather it shares plot elements but isn't really the same story overall. Also, the anime book apparently has very little to do with the original german silent film. So the anime is kind of a multidirectional homage and an artistic attempt to make something new for the oncoming anime era of popular culture. Maybe that's why I didn't like it.

All Shinkai movies are kind of the same. Anything he didn't do in 5cm Per Second or Voice of the Distance Star?
