Water for the OASIS

Post by Silverdream » Thu Feb 26, 2015 8:28 pm

A figure appeared in a flash. He was clad in grey power armour covered in scratches, and wearing a helmet resembling a knight’s. It was a giant who stood several feet higher than any of us. “Who are you?” said Captain Merfreddy, raising his machine pistol. “This is OASIS territory. Identify yourself.”

“Where am I? What year is it?” the armoured man said in a gruff voice, through a speaker. He sounded as though he had a cold, or if he was a heavy smoker. He was unarmed, aside from a large sword attached to the tattered cape he wore on his back. “You’re in my tent, and it’s G.R. 2015.” said the Captain. “Was your mind lost in the teleporter?” “Armour, activate right flank!” he yelled. The man reached at his side, and his armour opened up loudly. “Explain yourself right now!” yelled the Captain, pointing his pistol at the man’s helmet, before firing several shots. Several layers of locks under the plating extended a wooden stick, which he pulled out. “Sorry kid, I’m a little hard of hearing. The hearing aids on my suit don’t always function right. You’ll have to speak up.” The other soldiers fired, I looked for weak points, but even the eyeholes were protected. The old man moved faster than I expected, and he brought his cane down on my comrade’s head. The stick went through the top of his head but stopped at his nose. Comrade dropped his rifle. The Captain tossed a grenade at the suit while the armoured man tried to pull his walking stick out, “Verdamt, get your head off my stick.” He kicked the body off, and the grenade exploded.

It didn’t even faze him. The other soldiers ran out of the tent. “Bring bigger guns!” the Captain yelled after them. I stood, holding my rifle. “Armour, activate artillery.” A gun’s barrel the size of my forearm emerged from his shoulder, and fired seconds after, tearing through the tent’s roof. I heard the screams of my comrades with the explosion. The Captain opened a chest, revealing a chrome hilt inscribed with runes. He pressed a button, and a long red pillar of energy emerged. He charged towards the armoured man, who grabbed the Captain’s wrist. “Where did you get this sword?” he asked. The Captain pulled his other pistol from his holster and shot point blank at the man’s helmet, only making sparks and loud noise. The suit twisted his arm, forcing him to drop the nova sword. “Where did you get it?”, he said again, with anger in his voice. “Trattorian officer. Took at as my reward.” The armoured man lifted his arm up, and threw him out of the tent. He picked up the hilt to examine it.

It didn’t seem like he noticed me. I slowly crept towards the entrance. “Stay” he said, like he was speaking to a dog. He walked towards me, cornering me against the tent wall. “Does this look Trattorian to you?” he turned the blade off, and showed me the hilt. “I think it looks more like a Bavarian design. The unit we stole it from had probably fought Bavarians in the past, maybe the Trattorian officer Captain Merfreddy took it from picked it off of a Bavarian knight.” We both stood still for a moment, neither of us moving. “Yes, I think you’re right.” We were silent again, until I worked up the courage to speak. “Who are you?” The visor on his helmet opened up, revealing a wrinkled face with a massive scar over his right eye, and a long grey mustache and short beard. “I am Kaiser Klaus von Fynnvaria.”

In the ruins of a building burned beyond recognition, Hernan Gonzalez Don Verano sorted through reports at his makeshift desk (a slab of concrete supported by two cinder blocks), and came across a Wargvalry report dated from about two months ago. Hernan was confused. He had sworn he had gone through every single report written since he ordered reports of engagements with OASIS and OASIS supporters at the start of his reign over the Conquistadors. He cursed his negligence and opened the report, making sure to file it's existence in the databanks in his armor.
We were riding in the desert when we saw smoke and lights from a camp on the horizon. We hauled ass over there from the south side, slowly looking all around. We were stunned to find an obviously major OASIS camp that was meant for some tactical purpose entirely empty of life. When I say this, I don't mean there was no one in the camp nor any trace of life in the camp, I mean everyone was fucking dead. The bodies displayed a myriad of mortal injuries consisting of melee (one guy's head was split open to his nose, and we found a spruce cane covered in blood, skull fragments, and grey matter. Our medic said it wasn't possible, but I wasn't sure) and AND projectiles (bullets, shrapnel from mortars, etc.), like we had rode up on this place and fucked them up (I later made sure it was not us). Further exploration of the camp turned up Captain Merfreddy. I resisted the urge to feed him to my Warg, however tempting the idea was.
Funny that. Captain Merfreddy was one of the most fearsome, ruthless, and fanatical OASIS fighter on all of Faghdad. He had been plaguing Conquistador efforts on the world since the formation of the Conquistadors. Hernan continued reading the report:
Footprints revealed that whatever attack the camp was the size of a man, but much heavier than any fighting man should. Some of los Caballeros noted that the apparent attacker's first footsteps were WITHIN the camp, with them then leaving the camp with a single insurgent. His body was later found about 5 miles away, killed by a Emerian Remnant sniper we found still in his nest in an abandoned barn about 2 miles away. He said the guy with him was dressed in dark, metal armor, and that the laser from his mounted sniper rifle just scorches the paint off of the armor. Further investigation is ongoing.
Hernan put the report down, and carefully studied the last paragraph again. He needed to investigate this for himself.
