Re: Smoke grenades, chaff clouds, and such
Sounds really cool.
As for the slow field though, what penalties would a blind unit have while moving? Would they actually be fun?
I would instead treat it so that a unit moving slowly through the fog is fine, while one moving quickly is assumed to make a collision with an object of an opponent's choice during the movement. Preferably, something that can explode.

This would be really easy to simulate with bricks too, where you could just stack white and grey elements to obscure whatever you need to, with other bits marking the endpoints of the cloud. you'd remove bits as the cloud shrank. It's not a major penalty, and it provides an interesting element of play. I think you may have finally solved the smoke grenade riddle, so Imma give it my seal of approval.

Make a Skill Roll vs. inches moved while blind. If the roll misses, treat the unit like its trajectory is a Missed Shot on a Ranged Attack.IVhorseman wrote:As for the slow field though, what penalties would a blind unit have while moving? Would they actually be fun?

Ugh are you really going to make me dig through the archives and look up the earliest edition of BrikWars that had these exact rules for smoke and glop grenades? Because I'll do it.
(Edit: I did it. Smoke and Shaving Cream Grenades first appeared in the 1995 edition. I had actually forgotten about the shaving cream grenades.)
This is why the patent office requires new patents be "original" and "non-obvious." I'm not saying you're not contributing by making incremental refinements, but demanding that people not use obvious ideas that were already here long before you arrived unless they remember to slap your name on them is awful. Why not credit blackdog instead? Or loafofcheese? Or IVhorseman?
As long as we're on the subject, Pesgores wasn't the first to think of forum battles either, but he was obsessed with getting "credit" for ideas that a hundred people had already come up with before him too. If your ideas are genuinely new and innovative, people will remember that you came up with them. But smoke grenades? Come on.
When you say "don't use my ideas without credit," what I hear is "here are whole categories of ideas that you and everyone else used to use all the time before I showed up, but now you have to remember you're not allowed to anymore without kissing my ass."

Re: Smoke grenades, chaff clouds, and such
How about just giving a minifig two "limited" SN dice for the price of one? If there's only one task a sci-fi item is capable of doing, just give it twice as many dice for the same CP cost as one die.
Anyways, this is from my disclaimer at the beginning of Plastik Armory:
TL;DR: It's okay to ask for credit, just don't expect any or get booty bothered about it.
Anyways, this is from my disclaimer at the beginning of Plastik Armory:
I specifically chose to avoid giving people credit because I knew I was shamelessly stealing from other people. I'm okay with that, that's the kind of person I am. Naturally, I'll be the first to say that I don' give a flying fuck if you want to credit me or not when I inspire you - I appreciate it certainly, but it's by no means a necessary thing here. Either way, I also take no issue with you requesting credit where it's due, although I admit that I will assuredly use your ideas and forget to credit you. My response again: Eh.IVhorseman wrote:Most of these are playtested, lots of these aren't. Some of it should look familiar, because I blatantly stole it from you and didn't give any credit. Eh.

Oh man, because I think it's easier to just call it a blessed rocket launcher an just not worry about CP.

Sorry, the credit thing is just one of my hotbuttons, like Bragallot talking about racism. I can't help myself.Voin wrote:Wow, that overreaction is totally not where I was going with that - at all.
It looks like the original development threads were destroyed when Benny deleted General Discussion, but here's one from when it was already pretty far along: Thread 8694Voin wrote:Stubby, would it be possible to see your notes on on the SN rules? To "take a look under the hood" and see how you hashed out that system?

As long as you credit people for photos and link to the original post, that's all I care about. The main thing is that if someone likes a picture and wants to see more, they should be able to easily find it through a quick link.stubby wrote:Voin wrote:P.S.
