The Shotgun:
Cost: 4 cp Range: 4" UR: 4 Dmg: 2d6
How damage works:
The shotgun damages like an explosion that has 2d6 in the first 2 inches and 1d6 in the next 2 inches, and no damage after that. But, instead of damaging in a circle, it damages within a finger cone.
I am open to suggestions for improvement.

More cost, but otherwise good idea.

I think the range is phenomenally short, as well. a fingercone with a 4" radius doesn't really cover that much ground. In all honesty? I'd suggest 10", with the damage reducing every 5".

in all honesty, shotguns have an immense range due to the buckshot, in exchange for low damage. I'd just use a 40k flamer template.

Well, I think he's making it in proportion to other Brikwars weapons. It is short, but with that much damage to more than one person I think the range is okay. I realize that a shotgun can go as far as some of the short range weapons like pistols, but this kind of sets it apart. Try to think of it in Halo 2's terms maybe, with the pistol and the SMG being a decent range, other guns being a lot farther, and the shotgun can't do crap to anything farther than 5 yards away.

I'm slapping this into Brikwars perspective too. It has the power to do damage to targets as far away as could be reached by a long-range rifle, but doesn't do as much damage. Incidentially, it's close range burst has even shorter range than a pistol.
What I've been using is 2d6 damage for 6" range. No fingercones, just damage.

How about unlimited range, 3D6 damage, but the damage is reduced by 1 for every inch between the firer and the target?

oh use the halo type idea, short range, decent damage, spread shot.
that reminds me time to go play halo1 demo (can't be botherd to get full i don't mind only playing bloodgluch) and do some fuelrod bombing*, its all in luck when fuelrod bombing since you can't aim fully.
*fuelrod bombing is firing the fuelrod at a angle about 70-degrees for long range.

I was thinking that at extremely close range, it would reign supreme, but at further ranges, it would do less damage. I will work on it right now.
EDIT: The Shotgun:
Cost: 5 cp Range: 6" UR: 4 Dmg: 2d6
How damage works:
The shotgun damages like an explosion that has 2d6 in the first 3 inches, with a 2 inch knockback, and 1d6-1 in the next 3 inches, and no damage after that. But, instead of damaging in a circle, it damages within a finger cone. Better or worse?

I would think that IV had the best (simplest being best) idea. If not that, I'll draw from my old 3.5 DND books- works like a rifle, with double the damage, must take a turn to reload after each shot (like the Heavy Crossbow) A pistol-sized shotgun (like the Brickarms sawn-off) would be a pistol that requires a Move action to reload (ie: can fire OR move, but must lose one to reload.)

I made a different shotgun.
Ur:4 Range:12" CP:4 Dmg:1d6+2
2H Automatically has a 20 degrees fire arc.
I don't reduce the damage further away because usually, if you're hit by a bullet, you're dead anyways. Unless you're playing in higher teklevels where people can get shot and survive it.

Why does the scattergun have a longer range than the rifles?

4" seems pretty short even for a shot gun 6 or 7 would be better
