Diet BrikSpace

For those both enamored and terrified of the mild complexity of my original BrikSpace ruleset... there's now a fat-free version!

Taking notice of the complaints that many of the microscale rules systems are too complex, I created this basic ruleset for play anytime, anywhere, quickly and simply. All you need is some hex paper (there's a link in there that allows you to freely print hex paper, for those that don't have BattleMats or the like), a d6 or two, and some studs and various other LEGO (or non LEGO) bits.

This way, you guys can add in as much or as little complexity to it as you like. Mix and match rules from the original BrikSpace. Add in rules about giant, armored, missile-bearing taquitos, if you like, I don't care. What you do with these rules is up to you.

I thought that the original was very simple, if fuzzy in parts.

As I remember, you weren't one of the handful of people (coughcoughArkbrikcough) that decided to get all bent out of shape about the over-complexity of some aspects of the stuff.

And besides, I am a believer now in having two sides to a game system: the really simple side, and the more complex detailed side for the people who actually want to take the time to sit down and read through the wall of text given to them. If you can find a way to appease both worlds on one rulebook (Rayhawk) way to go, but it'll take me a while to reach that point. So I figured I'd throw this out there, since otherwise it was just gonna take up space in Google Notebook to no good reason.

You were part of the target audience, I'm glad you like it.

I'm about to engage in some basic playtesting, just to see if the concept WORKS. Printing out a sheet of hex paper now, and timing exactly how long the game takes to set up.

So far at about 30 seconds :)

EDIT: Hmm, edit of minor importance; don't use the 10mm hexes, use the 20mm. Restarting timer...

I like! Perfect for Microspace IMO. Less is more. Same with big battles too, keep the rules to a minimum.

Alright-y. The total time it took me to set up the playtest game was about 6 minutes. The game, with medium-sized fleets on each end, was about 20 minutes in length, give or take a few.

The gameplay was smooth and amusing, even as I was playing myself (never a pleasing prospect).
