I've never been a big proponent of genesis fandom anyway. I mean, like, thanks for the plastic bricks, mate.

These cultural phenomena are just that because they grew beyond their creators. Sometimes, their creators continued to have an active and positive hand in the proceedings and they deserve props for that, sure. But, on the other hand, just look at creators like George Lucas or Gary Gygax. All the best things in their particular creations were developed very much without them. I guess I never saw, "Well, we wouldn't even have [Blank] if it weren't for [Creator]" as a very strong argument in favor of giving them all the credit due other creators that expanded upon the creation in significant ways or took it in an entirely new direction.

Also, kind of on that note, consumers have the tendency to credit a single person for the creation of a thing (movie, video game, etc.) when, often, that creation is initially brought to life via the efforts of loads of people. It's simpler that way and that makes sense but the problem is, in slapping a creator label on something for the sake of ease of reference, we too often just forget that other people were even involved. And that can lead not only to Idolization but also to the villainizing of a creator whose idea goes sideways.

So I guess what I'm saying is, respect and credit where it is due, of course, but otherwise I don't really care.
