I read the book but I forgot what happened in it.
I think I'm too biased to judge the film on its merits. It was basically the same as with World War Z where they just lifted the name and everyone like me who was hoping for an interesting adaptation came away from their first screening looking like this.

Whoever said fuller context earlier in this thread was spot on. Though, in the case of Watchmen, that fuller understanding helped me to like the movie more than the graphic novel. As for Troopers, the movie is much more fun but I appreciate the book more.

I mean, the book had it's "Men are superior and the military is what every real man wants to do" moments, which are not exactly, dare I say it, "politically correct" in today's day and age, but it does bring up some interesting points. Does the movie have the same issues?

My favorite film is the film that slowly builds up on the inside surface of my car windshield.
At the beginning everything is clear and everyone is happy.
As time goes by it gets progressively cloudy, until it becomes impossible to live with.
There is then a final battle scene where I am in a life and death struggle with Windex and paper towels versus the now sentient film.
In the final scene I have a perfectly clear windshield again and am driving off into the sunset.
The end.

The movie is mostly about how "Men are superior and the military is what every real man wants to do" is stupid.

Also, lots of bugs and people getting splattered.

What I hate about the Starship Troopers movie fans are the ones who talk about it's "so deep satire you don't get it".

Yeah, having your characters dress up like SS nazis, really subtle.

Scythe described it best as it's a good film when you've had a few and there's nothing else on.

My top9. There's a lot of great movies I've seen in the last year like Get Out or Logan but I'm not including those because I've only seen them once or twice. This is movies I can watch at any time.

Edit: Boy and His Dog/Unforgiven at number 10.

Edit again: and Oldboy, and The Raid, and City of Angels and Lilo and Stitch.

I've mentioned it before, but Dark City is a criminally underrated movie that I'd watch again any day. Excellent neo-noir sci-th thriller that "inspired" The Matrix.

As I understand it, the book (Troopers) was intended to be satire. I don't remember it being real subtle either but then, I never came across anything that said it had to be.

Dark City is a gorgeous movie.

The book was not satire, it was a hypothetical in which fascist values could be made into a utopian world written by a left wing boi

I don't know if you can call Heinlein left or right wing. He was a kind of crazy hardline anti-Russian jingo nationalist and survivalist but also deeply social-libertarian, so he's all over the map. Also irredeemably pro-incest-pedophilia, not just in his writing but in life, if his response to (and rumored participation in) the Breendoggle are any indication. "Right" or "left" are just insufficient.

For me, there are so many movies i love. it is hard to list only a few.

All of the Road Warrior/ Mad Max movies, Fury Road is always a fun movie.
Serenity and all of Firefly
Deadpool
Dog Soldiers
Kingsman: the secret service
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Valerian

Im sure there are more, just can't remember them off the top of my head at the moment.

I mean, read some of his other books for the incest part, "Glory Road" or whatever comes to mind.
