What was the original math question?

Re: Angry at Math
I had to do everything up to third dimensional differential equations.
But you don't actually use any of that now, or ever.
Trig comes in handy once per year, a little more back in paper and pencil days.
Structural engineering, which I also do, has very specific formulas that you just plug values into.
Simple beam span
Maximum Moment ( in FootPounds) = (weight per linear foot x length of span squared) / 8
Section Modulus ( inches cubed) = (MM x 12) / fb
f (sub)b really, is the Fiber Stress of the material the beam is made of
I have this all set up in an Excel spread sheet, super simple bro.
Knowing how to apply it is the experience part.
Abstract math is bullshit, trust me, I'm an engineer!

Did you make it into Berkeley at 14?

How times have changed. You guys would have all died on contact with the 2001 edition, assigning damage by integrating quadrature domains and plotting the soluble bounds of insoluble differentials and all that crap. You should all thank your elementary arithmetical stars that we live in the far future of 2010.
I love meritocracies though because people who like them always coincidentally base them on the "merits" that they, personally, are good at. Like of course I'd be at the top of a true meritocracy, because everyone knows that real merit is measured by the ability to make an unrelenting rapid-fire stream of terrible dad jokes without experiencing any sensation of shame. Colette would be the emperor of the math meritocracy, because everyone knows math smart is the only real kind of smart. And so forth.
