Best first battle to show other people what the game is like
Hello everyone,
As you probably know, I almost never play brikwars with other people, I'd say, roughly 1% of my games are multiplayer.
As you might know, I spent three weeks in Latvia recently, and one of the things that happened there was me asking 2 guys if they wanted to
see what brikwars was like and they said yes.
I started a Facebook discussion with those two guys and the both joined someone else to the group. so now, I'm trying to organise a 5 player game, 4 of which
have never played before, I think this is a good way to start my multiplayerism.
What I thought I'd do was make statcards for all my créations (I have done that now, my most expensive thing is 150 cp) and make a weapon list
by copy-pasting things from the rulebook onto a word document (Which I have also done). The battle I'd decided to do was making five equal teams out of my
subfactions and then have them fight to the death on my baseplates and control buildings.
Do you think that would be a good battle to start with?
Do you have any better ideas?

Re: Best first battle to show other people what the game is
Remember, the more players, the less of the spotlight each of them gets, and the easier it becomes for one player to claim all of it. If you can split this game into two battles with different players, then do so. If that is not possible, then try and keep the forces on the board small.
It can be easy to focus on trying to teach the game, but this is brikwars, actually knowing the rules is a secondary skill as opposed to having fun. If you are unsure of a rule, or end up forgetting something, just wing it and make a note to check it for next time.
Duking it out to the death sounds good, but ending a game on a high is better than dragging it out until everyone loses interest just so that the last minifig can be left standing. Fighting to the death is just a way of arbitrarily declaring a winner based upon skill, strategy, or some other unimportant nonsense. Random and ludicrous objectives, or scenarios are always more fun, the more outlandish the better. I always remember the battle that was decided by the noxious fart cloud, or the mutant knotweed growth, as opposed to the anal points based objectives games. You can always set a turn limit, and decide the victor based upon who was the most awesome.

Tell your Latvian friends one of the admins is half Latvian. They'll also notice their flag on the AC's shoulder armour in this picture:

Okay, back on topic. Good BrikWars battle for newbies:
Get like 15 guys MAX for each player, set up a SMALL battlefield (2x2 of those big grey baseplates MAX, probably smaller is better) and maybe have an objective in the centre of the map like a tank or vehicle they can steal, or a relic or weapon. Just have a short fight for the objective, and show them the ropes as it goes along.
If they have fun, try a round 2, except now let everyone choose a hero, and maybe a small vehicle or like weapons (howitzer, armoured car, horse-drawn ballista carriage, up to you) and then have a rematch with this small amount of extra stuff. Also provide plenty of alcohol.

Is Latvia even a country? I ask because I found out that Holland is apparently a region in the Netherlands, not a separate country like I thought before.
On that note I never realized Scotland was on the same island as England until I was 19.
And I failed my geography tests in 7th grade then got a lower score on the re-takes...
Also I dated a Chinese girl in Japan accidently.

Best first thread to show other people what BrikWars is like. Maybe I should ban everybody and buy myself some peace and quiet

Well, kiddies: I think it's time for me to turn elsewhere for my brick-based community needs.stubby wrote:Best first thread to show other people what BrikWars is like. Maybe I should ban everybody and buy myself some peace and quiet
I've found a couple of other boards that have an acceptable amount of focus on actually building armies (and a thing called class...).
This board has become another little disappointment, not my kind of group.
Re: Best first battle to show other people what the game is
It would hardly be the best thread to show what brikwars was like if it didn't have overwatch copy-pasting the same recycled jokes again
