So, a little bit of backstory:

Years ago my dad worked for a magazine printing company and he used to be able to purchase extra magazines for quarters. Every once in a while he came across the old gaming magazine Scrye and would pick up a copy for me since I was into stuff like MTG and Pirates of the Spanish Main.

One day I was flipping through a new copy of the magazine and came across this page:

Look at the middle picture on the right side. That's Lego wargaming going on at GenCon!

This issue of Scrye is from 2002 (issue 54) and I thought that it was pretty cool that Legos could be used like Mage Knight, which was the only miniatures game I had heard of at that time.

Fast forward to 2011 and I'm sitting at home bored, flipping through old magazines and see this page again. I find it interesting and look up Lego wargaming online and find Brikwars. I lurk for a bit and then join the site, mostly from the awesomeness that was/is ZZD.

Now, today I was googling Scrye magazine to see if it was still in print (it isn't) and I thought about the issue that I remembered. After a little digging I stumbled across a page in our wiki that has a battle taking place at GenCon in 2002. Clicking on the links provided will give you images like this:

and this:

proving that it's the same battle as in the magazine.

And that, my friends, is how I got into Brikwars.

Man that's awesome. Makes me wish I had discovered Brikwars sooner.
