I have recently become really interested in films and was wondering what films other people of the forum enjoy.
And also what films you would recommend seeing.

Here are 3 of my favorites:

Alien (And all the sequels and prequels)
Starship Troopers(And all the sequels)
Letters from Iwo Jima.

I also recommend witnessing Tremors and all of its sequels and prequels.

Alien,
The Longest Day,
Tora Tora Tora,
Greatest Tank Battles(TV show, but, it's good),
21Days to Bagdad(documentary, but also good)

There was this other ww1 movie I watched a while ago, and can't remember whut its called, ill look it up.

Really? To be honest this reads pretty close to my favourite film list. Except Alien III and Aliens IV are godawful, Prometheus and Covenant are serviceable but not on the same level. Sort of the same with Troopers, the first is a misunderstood cult classic, but the second is a cheap B-movie horror that looks awful, while the third is its own interesting parody, but still not on the same level as the original.

Now Tremors, that is an odd one. Mostly because it got a TV show for which I cannot find episodes of for the life of me. I've only seen the first three movies, but the decline in quality can be seen. The series also becomes heavily centralised around its breakout character, who becomes the only character to reliably reappear. Don't get me wrong, Burt is one of my favourite movie characters, but he was never created to be the main character or protagonist.

I'll add Drive to this list. Excellent movie, amazing soundtrack. Saves the violence and action for when it matters most.

Here's my list of "must see films":

Fight Club, not gonna say any more.
V for Vendetta, The Dark Knight meets The Matrix.
Pacific Rim, stupid plot, epic and awesome nonetheless.
Gremlins, a side-splitting comedy with plenty of violence.
Watchmen, an epic superhero film, especially the three and a half hour ultimate cut.
Edge of Tommorrow, like Aliens meets Groundhog Day.
Halloween, even if you don't like horror, you've got to watch this at least once, best film score ever.

It's funny because more than half of those are adaptations that completely missed the point of the original works. I'm not saying the movies are bad on their own. But at minimum you should read the comics for Watchmen and V for Vendetta to get the fuller context.

True, Edge of Tommorrow has almost nothing to do with the source material and both V for Vendetta and Watchmen are totally different interpretations. In fact, I don't think either V or Watchmen are particularly good adaptations, just good movies. On the other hand Fight Club actually improved on the source material, making it something like the second movie in history to do so (first being Jaws).

What did you think of blues brothers 2000?

Also, my Mum went to France and bought me Abyss and Blade Runner, after reading some
of the stuff that happened when Abyss was being filmed, it sounds like it could be pretty intense.

Two of my favourite Eastern European flicks are Day of the Wacko and Chłopaki nie płaczą (Boys don't cry).

Holy shit I watched Day of the Wacko too. Really solid movie.

I was thinking the same thing for Starship Troopers. God, Heinlein must be rolling in his grave after a pack of satirists got hold of that work.

My favorite movies? Hm...

Hugo has probably influenced me more than any other movie. I only saw it once. It's about a boy with a shit life who stumbles upon an old, advanced automaton in France and puts it back together. Other stuff happens in the fashion of To Kill a Mockingbird. The movie lit an artistic spark in me that still burns to this day and is basically responsible form my dA activity and everything I've posted here.

Only if you want to see Heinlein's ideas sodomized by a bunch of guys who hated his ideas and produced a turd that's part slack-jawed satire, part SW prequel-esque commercialization.

The two have NOTHING in common apart from the names "Johnny Rico" and a bug war.

Starship Troopers is a great movie, probably on my favorite list.
