Low in Highschool [Review]

Post by Insert_blank » Sat Nov 25, 2017 12:00 am

Morrissey's latest album, Low in Highschool is a triumphant return to form for the aging indie singer. After the relative disappointment of World Peace is None of Your Business, his latest album is a treat to the ears.
Taking off from the more folk inspired WPNYB, Mozza has perfected the formula while incorporating more commercial pop sounds create the unique blend of pop and indie that fans have come to expect. More popish songs on the album include "I Wish You Lonely," "Spent the Day in Bed," and "In Your Lap." Most interestingly for long time fans however is a much more frank and open (ha!) discussion of Mozza's sexuality and his penchant for oral sex. First mentioned in "Home is a Question Mark" "If I get there, would you meet me? Wrap your legs around my face, Just to greet me" Morrissey shows an openness towards his sexuality that has hitherto remained unexplored and the topic of much debate among fans. The entire song "In Your Lap" is a tribute to his obsession with the human pelvis. The album reaches it's thematic climax in the track "When You Open Your Legs" in which he states "Everything I know deserts me now, when you open your legs. I see it all, I see it plain as day. How people only give once they receive." From this album we find a more mature, confident Morrissey finally willing to discuss his fetishizations and perversions instead of hide them like in his younger years. Truly he has grown as an artist and made himself more open to his fans emotionally.

Then he makes fun of soldiers and criticizes Israel so all in all typical Mozza.

Pretty good album 8/10, B+.

I enjoyed the songs:

"Like flour for batter"
"Do my emotions blend?"
"Spent the day vacuuming"
