I didn't think I'd ever hear that song used in a modern movie again. xD Post apoc stuff, a heart shaped explosive... this seems so Brikwars you have to wonder whether Mike is involved somehow.

One of my classmates from art school is in charge of the art department for the sequel. He's not returning my calls.

I never had a lot of interaction with him directly, but we were both part of a relatively tight-knit entertainment design group, one of whom got really weird obsessive-level pissed off about me dating one of the girls in the group. For a couple years that second guy would harass other people in the group with weirdly specific and detailed stories about how he planned to murder me with a claw hammer, and occasionally he'd do dumb stuff like try to sabotage my car. Later he got over his murder fantasies in relation to me specifically (as far as I know) and found a new girl to obsess over and they got married and lived happily ever after until she finally got a restraining order when he beat the shit out of her and tried to strangle her to death.
(Somewhere in the middle of all that, guy #2 there was in charge of visual development for that Big Hero 6 movie and a couple of other things. That's the animation industry for you. Maybe things will start getting less openly abusive and misogynist now that Lasseter and John K are out.)
Anyway I never talked that much with the guy #1 who ended up on Lego Movie 2, so I don't know if he got sucked up in all that drama or if he just had a no-poaching gag order about talking to current Lego employees (I was still a Lego employee back when I was trying to get in touch with them; I haven't tried since the big Lego layoff last year).

Oh, I didn't realize you were no longer working for them, when I saw those Nexo Knight sets I remember thinking you were probably involved in that (mind you I only glanced at them). I've sure missed a lot.

I was all tied up with Chima and Ninjago while Nexo Knights was underway. Any BrikWars influence in Nexo Knights is courtesy of Mark Stafford, but I suspect we stole the OT obsession from him way back in the nineties on Lugnet rather than the other way around.

Now that we're on the subject, my first impression of Nexo Knights was 'current me tends to lean towards more 'realistic' medieval / fantasy settings for LEGO, but as a kid I would've been all over that'. Especially those demon minifigures, dayum.
