BW Photo Standards??

Years ago my battles were done with photos 900px wide, as monitors were generally smaller and the internet was slower. Some older stuff was 853 x 640. My 2012 battle -- Quest of Piltogg: Head Separator Part III was done with 900 x 675 PNG photos as I was worried about compression reducing the already poor photo quality afforded by my cell phone camera and shitty lighting. 3 years later Bjorkwars and Booty Bothered were done with images in the same format.
In 2018 I made my first post with a 1200-wide .jpg but then I went down to 1100 x 619 for the YDAYL preview photos in early 2020. The YDAYL battle though has all been 1200 x 675 jpeg images.
Is 1200 x 675 too big, or can we be posting images that are maybe 1300 or 1400 wide now? Like, I don't want to fuck things up but I think techknowlegy is better these days, and maybe bigger size images are okay?

i was posting 1000pix wide on my battles for a while but i decided i didn't like how they looked on my screen, so i usually do 800 or 900 wide now
anything under 800 is too small imo

Why did I read this in an anime voice in my head? Anyhow, I can only speak for myself, but I think 1200 is perfectly fine to post, my laptop, phone, and wifi do just fine with them. Hopefully the same is true for other people?

The forum has a hard limit I think and scales down anything bigger. Might be 1024px wide?

I believe this is the case. I was looking at some of my more recent pictures from my newest camera that takes pics in 4928x3264. When they were posted to the forums they ended up being 1024x678. I think the forums might scale pics down even further for mobile users.
EDIT: Actually, looking at it more closely, I think that Photobucket did the scaling for me.

Yea, I'll have to confront that eventually. Still, Flickr's UI is lightyears easier to use (espescially on mobile), and so far they haven't started breaking/watermarking images that Photobucket did. Might have to see about paying for Flickr Pro once I'm out of uni and (hopefully) have more cash.

keep an eye out for sales or coupons. No reason to pay full price for flickr pro.
