WIP Cafe Corner-style Building

Post by aoffan23 » Tue Apr 13, 2010 8:09 pm

I sat looking at my disassembled Highway Transport set, and was trying to think of what to build out of it. I'm using the small wheels for another project (pics to come soon-ish), and most of my attempts to use the big wheels have failed. So, I thought I'd challenge myself to build something other than a vehicle. I've been inspired by the official Lego modular houses, as well as the Cafe Corner group on Flickr, so I settled on building a Cafe Corner-style building.

I don't really like yellow as a building's main colours, but it's the only colour with sufficient pieces in the set. So without further ado, I present, this thing.

P.S. This is supposed to be a very small library/bookstore in a small city street. So it's not going to be super elaborate and filled with hundreds of bookshelves.

Main view. I went for the corner design as an extra challenge, and it's turned out well so far.

A view of the inside, not much in here so far. It's got a staircase and a bookshelf, but I'm planning to add more shelves and other thingies.

Image

The staircase. I really like how this turned out, I didn't want to have stairs made of just plates.

Image

The bookshelf. I'm going to add more books when I'm done, depending on how many 1x1's I have left over.

The doors can open, took a bit of trial and error but I got it.

I put some touches on the back of the building to cover up the pieces I used to take the place of the yellow bricks I needed. They look pretty good if I do say so myself.

So what do you guys think? As mentioned in the title, this is still WIP, and all I have done of the second floor is the floor and a bit of the wall. I also have a couch I'm planning to add to the second floor, but that's about it.

It looks nice just its way to small to fit with the rest of the cafe line up.

Size doesn't matter, It's how you use it!

As in, it's great, but it's better when a brikwar occurs inside of it.

Yeah I know it doesn't completely fit with the official sets, but look at the set:

The pieces are hardly good pieces for buildings. I've used up most of the bricks already, so the second floor's gonna be kinda tough.

Hmmmm....

But thanks for the feedback, I'll try to squeeze in some time to finish it, but midterms are coming up, and I've got some work I need to catch up on. :(
