...except for all the people that bought the extended versions of the LotR movies.

But sitting in a theatre for that long is much different from being at home, so that's probably why they did it.

My suspicion is that that's where they take a minute out to explain why Gandalf, Galadriel, and Elrond have the three rings of power. They're probably having a rings of power party.

Saruman and Galadriel could also only show up for like 5 seconds. They may have only put Galadriel in the trailer because people will recognize her from LOTR and it will hopefully draw in more viewers who haven't read the book.

EDIT: That's also why they start the trailer with Bilbo actually talking to Frodo in the narrative, not the audience or some anonymous third party. They want to link it back to the other movies everyone's familiar with, which I have no problem with.

I have high hopes for this. When I saw this thread,

Uruk-hai! And lots of them! One thing that's always annoyed me was LEGO would have minifigs in about 1:2 attacker to defender. There would be a castle with 5 guys in it, and just 2 poor soldiers to attack it... But the set with the Uruk-hai and Rohirrim...5 Uruks attacking 2! Finally, someone told LEGO you have to have more people than the defender to attack a fortress! Also, my orc f-orces currently are quite pitiful-only 5 strong. For some reason, I didn't get any of those orc vs dwarf "castle" sets. These would make a nice boost. Also, either LEGO did some creative CGI with the weathertop set, or that hore had moveable legs... hopefully the latter

Also, to someone earlier who said there were no orcs at the battle of 5 armies...uless I'm terribly mistaken, orcs=goblins in LOTR.

there is a slight difference. gobbo's are generally smaller and more numerous.

The Uruk-Hai look dark orange with tan to me. Everyone else? In the Mines of Moria the orcs look dark red-brown and the Helm's Deep I think they're goblins with sand green like the previous troll figs.

The Uruk Hai set also looks like it has 4 attacking 2, not 5 attacking 2.

I thought so. I thought that there were goblins in moria (since they are darker in color and smaller and more physically frail than the big, powerful orcs), and I thought that orcs were the ones present at helms deep and the battle of minas tirith.

From what i'm given to understand, Peter Jackson's the Hobbit will expand on the original by showing what Gandalf was doing when not with the party.

Yeah, I realized after I posted. Just didn't edit it.

It was Uruk-hai that attacked at Helm's Deep. Orcs fought at Minas Tirith/Pelennor Field. Orcs were Sauron's, Uruk-hai were Saruman's.

At least in the movies, the only mention of Goblins was by Legolas in Moria. It's been a while since I read the books, though, so I can't remember exactly what they said there about the orc/goblin thing.

There are also Mordor Uruk-hai who fought at the Fields and guarded that tower where Frodo was taken after his fight with shelob, the reason why every one when batshit was because the normal orcs there hated the uruk-hai and vise-versa
