Thanks very much guys,
@Theblackdog: The missiles are either or not both types. I need more trans blue and then it can hold 40x Mrk II or III missiles.
@Pvt Expendable: Nope, not yet. That's as far as of this morning as I have gotten. I'm awaiting more base flats for floors and ceiling for the second level. I have ripped out the elevator from my base project and I've been toying with installing it in the Thunderchild instead of using laders but I'll need to down size it. Meanwhile I have been busy reading Natalyas weapons thread and trying to work out stats.

I just noticed, that's from In Death Ground, or The Shiva Option, or one of thoseWarhead wrote:
I don't have enough Trans blue or reds (I guess I'll need to order more) but I put what I do have in for comparison. The Trans Blue are Mrk III's for ship to ship and the Trans Reds are (?) AFHAWK's (Anti-Fighter Homing All the Way Killers) seeker missiles.

Starfire is a good game, but I read the novels, and they're flat-out AWFUL -- not only are they poorly written with flat characters and little or no variety thrown into what is basically a tale of two battlefleets charging at each other, shooting each other, retreating, and doing it all over again, but they're also right-wing xenophobic paranoia-fulfillment fantasies whose (sparse) statements about ethics and politics range from the absurd to the self-contradictory. Basically, the whole idea behind them is "hey, let's rewrite Ender's Game, but with the oh-so-clever plot twist that the aliens actually ARE manifestations of pure evil!" They're so bad that even a parody of them would be terrible.
CORRECTION: A parody of the David Weber/Steve White Starfire books would be terrible because the books are a quite effective parody of themselves.

Wow, and there was me taking the novels as nothing more than a trashy diversion.
I liked the Evil Arachnids. Wave after wave of unfeeling relentless alien death on a stick. Marvellous.
However, after having read some naval battles of WWII (Layette Gulf) among others and having played the game that the books tactics are based upon, tactically the book is sound, in as much as a fiction can be to an armchair Admiral.
EDIT: That and I liked the Tech development R+D and the hardware.
Anyway, if you all say Enders Game is better than this then that'll be for me.

Trust me, there are WAAAY better trashy diversions out there. Go read the RCN series by David Drake. The Way to Glory contains the best climactic space battle I've ever read.Warhead wrote:Wow, and there was me taking the novels as nothing more than a trashy diversion. :D I liked the Evil Arachnids. It's true that the tactics in the book match up well to those of real life naval fleets, but that's actually the problem; authors like David Weber are too willing to crib tactics and conditions from sea battles -- sometimes arm-twisting the laws of physics to do so -- rather than spare a few moments to think about what space combat would really be like. David Weber is particularly evil in this regard (and the space battles in the Starfire series are far from his worst offense), which is why I've stopped reading his books.

It's just conventional naval battles in space, trash but still enjoyable IMO. To each there own. I'll have a look at David Drake though, books are so expensive nowadays so I hardly ever buy any, anymore. I'm left with re-reading all my old stuff. *sigh*
EDIT: Oh, almost forgot. Just for you Blackdog, I managed to find enough Trans Blue bits to fill both Missile Launchers. That's 40x Mrk II's or III's.

Thanks, yeah, spikes or a big saw blade or something. The holes are actually for reverse thrust for after a ram attack. The missiles have been changed to all blue.
@Pvt Expendable: Yeah, I got those and yeah the battles where good. I liked his version of Space Pirates. But I still prefer Weber's style of space battle.
