Re: one ring to rule them all
My guess is they want people to buy more sets instead to gather minifigs.
This sig is too fucking large: show anyway
Re: one ring to rule them all
Indeed, I loved those sets as a kid!Zahru II wrote:stubby wrote:I referenced that Space Explorers set like every other week when I was pitching ideas to LEGO, but for two years they outright refused to ever again do minifigure-only sets without any construction in them and got increasingly irritated that I wouldn't shut up about it. Well who's laughing now LEGO! WHO'S LAUGHING NOW!
My efforts just resulted in the collectible minifigures thing, so it was like a 20% victory.
I can't understand why they've given up on that, those were the best things ever, a real bang for your buck if you needed a couple more figs to whichever theme you wanted.
You always got a few bad guys to fight your good guy sets... or was more the case with me, a few good guys to fight your bad guy sets.
Re: one ring to rule them all
The Uruk-Hai set also has good guys in it, not just the Uruk-Hai. It's basically just like any other set.Scarapis wrote:Well it looks like the Uruk-Hai set could be considered a battle pack, its got alot of figs and a small set which will be awesome, but on another note it looks like it might be more then $10 which is sad.

Yeah but its the closest thing we'll get to a battle pack, since its asmall to med. set with a lot of minifigs in it.
Re: one ring to rule them all
I was referring to actual battle packs; not matters of opinion on what are, or are not, perceived to be battle packs. They do have battle pack in the name so I consider them to be battle packs.OneEye589 wrote:By Battle Pack I mean the sets that literally had "Battle Pack" in their name. They have 4 or 5 figures from the same faction in them, have no conflict going on, and used solely to increase one side of an army:morganm wrote:That said... I'm not sure there really is a correlation between sales and battle packs. They made a battle pack for the brand new Alien Conquest theme. That line didn't have to prove itself with sales and revenue before it got a battle pack. They released castle theme battle packs even though, and again I agree with you here...
I think what you're referring to is what most people refer to as "impulse packs," with only one figure. I fully expect them to make those for orcs, elves, and humans.
If you're talking about the $10 sets with one from each side, or one with 3 from one side and 1 or 2 from another, those are just regular Lego sets, not really Battle Packs. At least in my opinion.

Now... there are far MORE Star Wars battle packs than any other line; true enough. But I think there's a fair chance LotR may get a battle pack at some point.... hopefully several =^.^=
ps: 853176-1: Skeleton Mummy Battle Pack is on sale right now for like $8.

I think it's all going to depend if they sell well enough to warrant a second run. We'll see.

Well then everyone needs to do their part here and buy lots of LotR sets!
I told my wife about these and her response was "OH GOD.... "
I'll take that as an implicit agreement that I will be spending stupid amounts of money on these 'for the children'
Re: one ring to rule them all
Ooooooh, I didn't know those were also called Battle Packs. The only time I've ever seen those was the times I went to a Lego Store, so it slipped my mind. You are correct sir.
I was thinking of Battle Packs as in the boxed ones with Clone Troopers, Storm Troopers, Mandalorians, Battle Droids, etc.

Ya now that you mention it... I don't remember seeing those other battle packs at major retail stores either. Just at the Lego store at MoA. Weird....

The ones in plastic packaging usually don't sell in very many places, but they are plentiful on the internet for about 1-3 months... then they become 20$

How did I miss this?
Awww I have been crossing my fingers for this for many years! Eventually I lost hope but now it is (almost) real!
Yeah, they are peach, but I'm more interested on the monsters anyway.

The only thing I got from this:
They're splitting the hobbit into two movies? The book is tiny and not even that interesting!

Re: one ring to rule them all
The Hobbit is way more interesting than Fellowship of the Ring.
But yea, this isn't really news. They've been saying they were making it into two movies since they announced it a year or two ago.

Re: one ring to rule them all
I get the impression that they're adding a lot more of the surrounding story into the movie than was covered in the book. I don't think either Galadriel or Saruman were in the book for instance, except as side mentions, but they've both got roles in the movie.ForlornCreature wrote:They're splitting the hobbit into two movies? Re: one ring to rule them all
I thought the Hobbit was actually a little boring except for the battle with Smaug and Mirkwood (I think that's what it was, I haven't read the book in a while). Hopefully the movie will clear up a bit more than the book did.I get the impression that they're adding a lot more of the surrounding story into the movie than was covered in the book.
