Re: A study in alt builds
by almost 2 years!
I've acquired a few more sets since I made this topic, therefore I've done some more alt-builds. I don't have pictures of all of them, but I do have a bunch saved in LDD, so I'll post some screenshots of them at some point. I'll start with the ones I do have pictures of.
First up is a retro Formula 1 racer built from the Mini Cooper:
I also built a Jeep Wrangler with the set, but never got around to finishing the interior or taking pictures of it. It's a shame, because I thought it was really good.

Next up is an eagle, plus eaglets and a nest, built from the Park Animals set:
Another view:
And last up for this round is an F4U Corsair built from the Blue Power Jet:
Really happy with this one. Also the set is fantastic, if a bit pricey.

Let me know what you think!

Re: A study in alt builds
Love the curves on the F1 racer (British racing green!) and the Corsair (nice stand btw), and the texturing of the eagle is interesting, especially with plenty of details and angles already crammed in there.
Out of interest, have you tried making the wheels stand a little proud from the car? I'm not necessarily advocating putting them on big long legs (see above) but with them so flush to the car it's probably going to have a rather large turning circle.

Re: A study in alt builds
Thanks, guys! I love doing these so it's nice to see that other people appreciate them too.
I'll be honest, I barely put any research into the build. Unlike the Corsair, the car wasn't based on any particular vehicle, and in the end it only kind of fits the look. I'd love to pretend I knew what I was doing when I was building it, but the whole thing was built simply because of the way the windshield parts looked around the grille.dilanski wrote:Out of interest, have you tried making the wheels stand a little proud from the car? Those are not eyes.
Stick them in the dickgun position on a mech then they are ballz.

I'm loving the Corsair. One of the best WW2 Aircraft builds I've seen so far.

Re: A study in alt builds
by another 2.5 years! Which is even worse because these pictures were uploaded in March of 2016, and models were built in 2015 (some maybe even 2014).
These were all built IRL, then replicated in LDD because I knew I wasn't going to get around to taking pictures when I built them.
First is a couple of alt-builds of the Snowplow Truck set.

Next is an alt-build of the Warp Stinger set.
Other views:
Lastly, a few alt-builds of the Eradicator Mech set.
Not 100% why I didn't put the minifig in these ones.
Another view:
Those little wings are supposed to clip onto those orange wedge plate parts, but the connection isn't supported in LDD.
Another view:
This one is supposed to have some forced perspective going on, with the buildings being a smaller scale than the spaceship.
