I was browsing bricklink and I came across three weird looking sets that I had never seen before. They where listed under the Knights Kingdom II category but feature totally different factions for the most part.

Does anybody know what these sets are? Are they prototypes? And why have I never seen them in a store before?
The design is pretty ugly too.

All of these are from the 2006 wave of the line:

As far as I know neither of them were unreleased/exclusives. Although I never saw 8813 (Battle at the Pass) in retail stores locally.

Yeah i want to hear about how it came to be that some of the soldiers in set 1 have no pants, too!

That's probably because they tried yellow as knightly color - kind of how yellow DSMs look a bit silly. Oh well, speedo knights were at least a different take!

The celts used to run into battle naked, so maybe that was these guy's plan.

There's no crazy story behind these; KKII had unbelievable sales in 2004 and 2005 and then in 2006 we did this kind of half-assed super-limited run for some reason. It was King Jayko and his new knights Sir Kentis the Unicorn and Sir Adric the Bull, versus good old Lord Vladek and his new knights Dracus the Dragon and Karzon the Snake. Kentis was some kind of kung fu master, and Adric was just super strong like Santis the year before. Karzon was a master of cunning traps, and Dracus for some reason had this army of dudes with no pants on and a rad boat with dragon wings for sails.





I put Dracus's no-pants guys on Drayko's team in the Rainbow War, but I gave them pants. Maybe I should de-pants them for historical accuracy.

Maybe their pants is the source of their invincibility?

That explains why they where so hideously designed.
To be honest at first I doubted that these sets where even lego.

And stubby, you definitely have to unpants them for historical accuracy and then make up some bull shit back story about how the tradition of pantlessness started.

They ran away to Pantus, the Grey Threat.

The only thing I like about these sets is the painted body armour, and maybe the shields and faces, too. The idea of having regular soldiers instead of just knights in the kingdom of Rainbowland I mean Morcia appealed to me too, had they been better designed. But yeah this is probably the worst castle line (that the baby blue knight made king says enough in my book! :p) and I had seen them before (but never bought any), luckily Fantasy Era was a return to form.

The pantsless knights put as much thought into their wardrobe choices as the designers did into the creation of the castles. Maybe they were crappy fighters and decided to intimidate their opponents in... other ways.

I can imagine having some fun with these when I was six, because at that age you don't notice/care about most of the flaws with the sets (i.e 1 flat wall = a whole castle/ BURPs = integral masonry) and instead been able to get a fair amount of play value from the features they've included and the minifigs included (of which there seem to be a few, atleast i the first set). However, when you look at it with the approach of "what can I use" instead of "what can I play with", your options begin to get limited .
