Minifig of the Month

Just an idea here
How about we have a friendly competition each month for showing off custom minifigs, whether they're troops, heroes, pedestrians, whatever
Some simple rules
- Custom / third party parts are OK as long as the majority of the figure is still lego
- Licensed and LEGO set based stuff must have at least 33% unique parts. A minifig can be considered to have a head, headgear, torso, arms, hands, hips and legs. So a Stormtrooper would at least need a new head and helmet to be eligible.
- Minifigs don't have to be new, but they can only be entered once unless significantly changed. And a limit of 3 submissions per participant per month
- Entry must specify which category it's under, whether Soldier, Character, or Misc.
Voting will be done in strawpolls for each category each month. Voting will not start until this period.
There will be three Categories
The Cannon Fodder Award *MONTH* - For the best non character soldier, can be from any Tek Level
The Special Snowflake Award *MONTH* - For the best hero or named character, can be from any Tek Level
The miscellaneous minifig of the month award - a catch-all award for 2nd place in either of the first two categories, or for other stuff. like small teams of characters. (max 5)

I like this idea.
I humbly submit two figures (Characters, I guess) for this month:
Chap Zanagher, ace mobile suit pilot. Zanagher is the sole surviving member of a wealthy, aristocratic family that was was massacred during the R epublican Revolution. He joined the navy to rise through the ranks and exact his revenge on the government that killed his family, but discovered that piloting mechs was awesome. Nowadays, he gets his kicks from cleaving starfighters in half with a big sword.
Warhead shard. I made it just for this.

I'm intrigued to see what the response level to this will be. I might suggest a community vote in place of judges for two reasons. Judges can sometimes be hard to get, especially if you want a rotating cast, and it would help to set the competition apart.
Also, you should change the title to Minifig of the Month - May 2018 for this thread.

I like the idea. But as Quantumsurfer has said a community vote might be easier. Simply add a poll and update the poll with options as you see them.

I'm not adverse to that suggestion but some tweaking would be necessary as we'd run out of poll options very quickly if everyone was allowed 3 per month and you had potentially unlimited participants

Thats true 25 is not really a large amount. Maybe each person can only post 3 but only nominate 1 as a submission to be judged. It would kind of encourage having a sorta squad leader and have the other two figs play off of that hero or main dude.

I was thinking of 2 options
either change it to 1 submission per person per month
or
have 3 different competitions
one for troops
one for characters / heroes
and a miscellaneous category
My planned format is to have voting done on strawpoll if necessary, and it'd be done during the first week of the month. meaning month 2 would start before month 1's winners even decided

It would be cool if the months had themes.
Example: space hero, pirate captain, dumb henchmen, standard trooper, etc
Maybe whoever wins decides the theme for the next month

Looks like... Time for those Lego City Racers of mine steal stuff from Kazi peeps (and mold my own parts with clay then).

I'd very much like to participate, though I doubt any of us is gonna beat the concave dolphin.
Category: Hero
Meet
Hal Sullivan, a cyborg super-soldier guy with a handful if big guns and a headful of mad. He was a hero minifig for my first BW battle, leading a squad of elite mercs fighting against robot necromancers. No particular backstory, Hal just enjoys doing his job.

This isn't entirely my call to make, but I'm gonna say we'll go with this.
Public voting.
3 categories per month
- Troop
- Character/Hero
- Misc category (can be any 1 fig, or a group of 5, random grab bag of stuff)
Entries must designate which category they are applying for
Will use Strawpolls. Voting will be done during the first week of the following month.

I humbly submit this fig to be judged by the council.

He would normally have a sniper, but I don't have any photos of him with it currently, so whatever. This is some sort of commando/sniper/force recon guy. Just a Troop for contest purposes.

Looks like 501st torso is the top of the line eh?
