Heavy Modification

Post by DaCoda » Sat Jun 13, 2009 9:33 pm

I am a fan of most table top games. I play very few though. BrikWars being the cheapest, and easiest for my little brother's to understand.
Legos are cheap for someone that's collected them at birthdays and Christmases for years. Still, they are not cheap enough. I have dozens of mismatching bricks, broken pieces, and useless garbage. I don't have any good figures except for repainted MegaBlocks Dragons men. I took my terrain skills to some use and even taught my little brothers a thing or two about proper texture and drybrushing. I shared these at TerraGenesis, but thought they would get a laugh out of you guys as well. Not as cool as the things that are made legitimize with legos, but pretty cool none the less.

I wanted cover, elevation, and a somewhat good looking board.

The set includes two large broken walls, a small broken wall, a fallen column for cover, three standing columns. As well as a pile of rubble. The walls have been textured and drybrushed, but I preserved the bumps so that it is still playable. The pile of rubble has a protrusion that is set four bricks high, as well as a square in the middle of it that both allow for elevation even on the rubble pile. I am also working on two turret guns.

I just thought I would share it all with you. Pictures will be up of the whole set as soon as I get a couple of the large green bases painted up to match.

Actually it's a good mix of both. However, the only piece that stands out is the odd shaped mega block. I do love that shape. Sad to use one, but I needed that shape. I'm not very brand loyal. I don't fight that fight. Lego is obviously better, but I've found that they hold paint about the same.

As someone who also does some tabletop model building I think these look really good. As a Lego builder I feel they go against the principle of Lego construction but I still think they look cool and that when you use them your battles will be amazing looking. Very nice mate.

Sweet terrain - looks like it could easily belong on either a Brikwars or 40k battlefield.
CONGRATULATIONS - you just WON The Game FOREVER. Or you can carry on being a humourless nugget - your call.

Sorry for my lack of brand loyalty. Molded Plastic is molded plastic. lego is more creative, and has more rebuild capabilities, where as Mega Block takes no creativity, but in the end then both serve their purposes.

My army will be a group of paladins. Grey and Blue painted MB Dragons Warriors with lego and handmade guns. A good mix of tech that appeals to me.

I have now flocked the entire set. Nice moss growing on my ancient broken city. I also have four trees that are Model train trees my brother drybrushed for this set, and a larger decrepit tree made from aluminum foil and flock. The whole set looks great. Pictures when It's done.

Actually Pictures now. I Set them up on paper for now. I got some shots.

A cool one of the trees and segway of death.

It's not in the break and rebuild spirit of Legos, but if I spent the time and money that you guys usually do on these projects I'd never break them anyways, so they might as well be as super glued as these. It comes down to personal preference. I like the final product, and the building, but I like keeping things so I'd rather buy a lot of cheap bricks and paint to make a bunch of keep able stuff.

This will be used with BrikWars as well as several other games with free rules like Necromundia, Mordheim, and things from Free War games websites. I will use Lego figures for these games. Anyone seen a lego Space marine before? Or a Lego ratman because they will be a challenge.

MegaBloks only serve for experiments. Dangerous experiments that may "accidentaly" destroy them.

I grew up loving table top terrain. Never could afford the pewter men to go along with them. I'm making a table good for BrikWars as well as other GamesWorkshop and various other free rulebooks. Thanks guys. This will all be on studs once I buy the road pieces I need. I'm currently working on a table that leans more towards terrain than legos. it will all be stud friendly. The tops of everything will be standable, but it will look nothing like legos. i'll be incorporating such things as Foamcore, balsa, model train foliage and lots of paint. It will, however, be good for all BrikWars men to play on. I will be gluing the pieces to studs, and gluing studs to the pieces. It'll all make sense when I get stuff uploaded. I can build a kick ass terrain set for half what a kick ass lego set costs, and it will appeal thrice as much to me. So me and my brothers will get started soon.
