any suggestions?

Post by Ranger S2H » Tue Oct 20, 2009 1:38 pm

ok, heres the situation: I've got 50 euros and a "get three, pay for two" action at the local toy store.
what should I get?

notes:
you only get the cheapest item for free
you can't have multiples of the same item

if 20 chickens can fit in a brick, how many pingpongballs does a crocodile have to eat so it can swim faster than a washing machine?

What stuff are you interested in? I've noted that the none Space or movie themed Lego is cheaper. Hell, even Power Miners is better quality and value for money than the star wars crap (IMO) the minifigs are cool but the sets suck. I haven't been able to price the Space Police sets yet but there are some good value Lego City sets.

What's your goal? Bulding an army? A SHIP? Need spare or unique parts? You need to determine what you want and then choose sets accordingly...

I'm currently thinking power miners, I used to have rock raiders but the power miners' vehices look a lot better as they look like actual mining equipment IMO. the Burpman has been improved too, and hes got minions!

Im also considering pirates, specifically sets with soldiers.

current shopping list:
thunder driller 30 euros
claw digger 20 euros
and Ill take the granite grinder for free

Ill later add the mine mech and the stone chopper, and then start saving money to buy the crystal sweeper

The Thunder Driller is a good set. My kid doesn't have the Claw Digger yet but the Granite Grinder's cool too. Why not take something bigger though? If you can. Crystal King? It has some nice parts and looks good.

I don't think the crystal king is something Im looking for atm, Im more into the powerminers themselves.

Don't forget tax. If you only have 50 Euros you can't buy something equivalent to 50 Euros.

Or do you crazy Europeans not have tax? I honestly don't know.

tax is already included in prices here in europe.
Act first, then think, then try to find a way to cover up the horrible mess you made.

Really? That's neat and handy. I wish it was like that here in the US.

We still have to pay it, they just don't hide it from us.

Yea, I figured you still had to pay it, but it's nice to be able to add it all up nice and easy instead of having to guess at whether you have enough or not by calculating it after.

How much do you pay in the US.

In B.C. We have to pay 12 freaking percent.

On big sets that can be a shitload.

It depends on the state I believe. In New York it's 8%. I don't travel much, so I dunno if it's different in other states.

It varies by product and by state, usually between 5-8%, but higher for specific items like hotels, gasoline, cigarettes, etc. Where I grew up there was no sales tax at all, the state got its main revenue from property taxes instead.
