Post-apoc Land Ship

This was supposed to be my next item in the Experiment 24 Log, but I wanted to add some out-of-context builders' notes, and that would ruin the effect. So, I'm gonna post it here until it's completely done (some areas are still WIP).

Also, I wanted an excuse to show off my sis' new DSLR, which will allow way better pics from me (until she goes away to uni later this year).

Image

It's a land ship built off of a train car and some tank tracks taken from two tanks that didn't make it through the planned attack. As you can see, it follows the shape and layout of an actual ship.

Image

This is the captain of the ship, looking on from his captain's quarters with his two revolvers.

Image

The two basic guards (the other is in the background, should've taken a pic of her too).

(Autofocus fucked up both these pics, the first one was actually supposed to be a view of both snipers  )

Image

This is the who's tasked with constantly trying to find a signal, since getting a signal means potential rescue.

Image

I really like what I did here. The crew put up a captive of any rival factions as the masthead, and their screaming puts fear into anyone who hears it. I wanted to give this ship an instantly recognizable "omen", to make it seem creepy. You may also notice the skulls on the side of ship, which were put there for the same relative purpose.

Image

This is just a shot I took to show that the three layers at the back are all independently accessible.

Image

This is the dungeon that's located under the captain's room, used to store the backup prisoner for when the masthead dies. As you can see, there's nothing in there, but I wanted to show that it's a pretty decent size.

Image

The captain's room has a fold-out table/bed. It's used as a table when looking at documents, thinking of plans, etc. It's used as a bed when, well, he sleeps.

Image

This is the bolt thrower that's mounted on the front of the bottom deck. Yeah.

I also had a pic of the mortar mounted on the back, but it's gone for some reason. :mystery:

Image

Oh hey look, the two decks can be separated too!

Image

Closeup of the engine, yes I am aware it is only half visible because of the wall.

Image

Another autofocus-to-blame shot

The engineer and assistant in respective order.

Image

The shot I did manage to get of the mortar, including the gunner.

Image

WIP engine machinery greebling. I just want to make it look like there's something that lets it move (before this it was just a flat bottom with treads).

Areas I still need to work on:
Steering mechanism (VERY important)
Lower deck details
Gas tank
More apocifying

I'll try and get detail pics up soon, since I added some nice architecture in with it.

C&C always appreciated.

Aoffan, this is awesome. I demand to see this in a brikwar- heck, even a scenario battle with yourself would be cool.

And the camera looks way better. 8)

if possible you should have a semitruck with a small fort on back and the truck directly linked to the back. edit i.e locked and welded.
OR!
'life boats' that are little buggies with a open air troop compartment in it.

I didn't know what to expect when I opened this topic, but this was definitely not it. I love it. It's kinda square, though. The top deck (the whole thing to part minus the engine and track section) looks like a boat on its own. I like the post apoc minfigs too. Those are nice work. Maybe do a little work to make it more like a 'boat' that had a bunch of land engines strapped to the bottom, if that is what you're trying to to go for. Overall? Nice. I dig it.

Still what you made is beastly, love the scorpion. Does it really fire? I made one a few years ago that did but the tension form the rubber band made its bend badly :(

@Ross: Hehe I might, but I'm already planning something else. Mwahahahahahaha

@Runny: I like the lifeboat idea, but I went more for shape of a boat than the features of one. I'll think about it though...

@Timedude: As said in the OP, it's based off of a train car that they found, so it's got that shape. I'm not going for a full-on boat look, just the layout (captain's quarters at the back, figurehead, mast look-alikes, etc.) But now I want to see someone do that, that would be friggin epic.

@J+B: Completely different, that's a truck, while this is a land ship on a train car with treads. I do really like that truck though, I'm pretty jealous of it. It also makes me realize I need to the effort into setting up a white background, it would make this look a lot better.

The bolt thrower doesn't actually fire, I build stuff more for display than playability.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I just noticed the greater than sign. Well even though I agree, I would like to defend the fact that I do not make Bricklink orders, and don't buy LEGO very often anymore. So I can't always get the perfect pieces, and most of this ship came from buckets of 7+ year old stuff. The truck however uses all bley and reddish-brown with all peach minifigs, so I'm assuming this was build from Bricklink orders or carefully picking out lots of sets for the right pieces.
