First I need to give credit where due: I snagged this from the Eurobricks front page if anyone hasn't seen it yet. You may find this... interesting:

NO WAY! Man I pitched this idea so hard for the 25th anniversary of the minifig in 2003, but they told me it could never, ever, ever be done. This is one more stupendous breakthrough for the administration of Joe Vig.

Why?
SCIENCE!!
Also, don't feel bad, Rayhawk. Well, maybe. I've seen other companies do this (GW is fairly infamous for "That's a Bad Idea" and then releasing said idea as an Official Thing or optional rule a few years later).
That said, nice box. About as awesome as those two-fiddy minifig pakcs for knights.

how much would that pack cost?
Also, they need to do a strictly space themed pack like that.

I think my two greatly anticipated in that pack is Dr. Jekyll and the Red Spaceman. Both of those I would find incredibly useful.
