I wrote a poem:
Twenty five years ended Friday
He remarks to no one at all
A man with half his life behind
Left without bridges, only walls
It was no wonder, half his life
Was enough to destroy a man
Twenty five years she tormented him
And no way out, no escape plan
He really did try to love her
As he did when she wore no ring
But pretense gone, she gave naught back
His heart for her was worth nothing
His younger days were times of wealth
But wealth wielded responsibly
He was wise, and generous too
Giving away made him happy
But those days were gone with his wife
Who stole from him twenty five years
He pleaded for end or release
But his appeals fell on deaf ears
Twenty five years tore into his heart
But he could not break free, never
He should have known this was his fate
From the instant he laid eyes on her
Mesmerizingly beautiful
And he had not seen her black heart
If he had he would not be here
Behind grey walls and iron bars
He held up his hands, and cursed them
The tools of his one defiance
But that one act had left his wife dead
And he cries in bitter silence.
