Zupponn's Midis

Post by Zupponn » Tue Jan 05, 2016 4:31 pm

After Natalya posted the song she wrote for mgb's game, I was inspired to dig up the old midis that I made when I was dabbling in game design some 5 to 7 years ago. Most of it is shit, but there are a couple songs that I like, even though I would probably change them around a tad if I wanted to work on them further.

There are 16 midi files in the attached folder. I'm going to write up brief descriptions for all of them. If you have any questions or comments, let me know.

-First Game Music Folder-
This folder contains the music that I made for the first game I ever created. The game was shit and the music isn't much better, but the songs still provide some nostalgia to me.

Boss Music - The title is pretty self explanatory. This was the music for the boss in the game and probably my least favorite song I've ever made.

ChaCha - Level music. Listening to it now reminds me of SimCity for some reason.

Congrats - The simple congratulatory music for when the player beats the game.

Dark Alleyway - Level music. I like this song for the piano and the way that it sounds like a march. I remember creating it as an experiment using the snare drum as the main instrument.

Elevator Music - Level music. Very calm, relaxing music.

Epic Cave - Level music. Boring, too long, doesn't move enough.

Epic Loop - A loop for the title screen.

Epic Temple - Level music. I believe this was the first track I made for the game, as it has the game's title "Epic Temple" as its title as well. I still like the simple guitar in the song.

-Rest of the Songs-
The rest of the files were created after the First Game Folder ones and I feel that most of them are better than the first group.

Fun Loop - An experiment in looping songs. It's bright and fun.

I Am Tired - I have no recollection of why I made this, but I do find it a decent track. I believe it was made sometime after the Space songs.

Metal(Lengthened) - My attempt at making a hard rock/metal song. I think it turned out okay.

Power Chords - This was an experiment using power chords and how they sounded in midi form.

SpaceMusic - Looping level music for a space shooter I created. I think it sounds like it would fit a casino game better.

SpaceMusic2 - Looping boos music for the same space shooter. I don't like it as much as the other one.

SpaceSong(ReEdit) - This was actually the title song for the space shooter, but I ended up fleshing it out more. I like this song and feel that it's the best of the group.

Stuff - I really don't remember writing this song. I find the ending to be interesting and suspenseful.

Listened to all of it. I think you got something if like you just layer a couple more sounds or experiment with longer songs. I did like the second group more in general. I like the FF vibe they all had.

Yeah, most probably do need another instrument added in. I think a lot of times I added in drums, bass, and lead guitar roles while forgetting to add in the rhythm guitar role. I purposefully partitioned off the first group because of how bad much of it was. The FF vie probably comes from my love for SNES music. I have a playlist on my computer of my favorite SNES tracks that I listen to from time to time.
