H.M.S. Kaplan Attack Cruiser

Post by Cpt. Zipps » Fri May 21, 2010 6:37 pm

The Super Jews knew it was time to replace the Shapiro so they took it apart and salvaged all that they could. They hired a new engineer to design the replacement. It needed to be more effective, more deadly and most of all, It couldn't look all shmutzy like the Shapiro. The H.M.S.
(His Mensch's Ship) Kaplan

Image

The Kaplan is a fair bit smaller than the Shapiro, probably due to it's lack of a fighter bay. The Shapiro measured up at 54" while this is only 32".

Image

One thing's for sure, I wanted to keep those railguns. There's one on either side of the bow, manned by the captain.

Image

Up top there's a small Flechette Turret and a couple of Mk II missiles.

Image

Of course I had to keep the Death Ray from the Mk II Shapiro.

Image

This big blue thing sticking off the hull is where the captain controlls the ship from. There is actually a small window behind the Death ray that he looks out of.

On top of the conning tower is a small autocannon and the main sensor array.

Image

The Service Cannon, a combination of a medium autocannon and a set of 4 Mk II missiles.

Image

The ship also carries 8 other Mk II missiles, 4 on either side of the bridge.

Image

I finally made a ship where the roof comes off easily. Inside at the back are the crew quarters, limited infirmary and engineering.

Image

Unlike previous ships, the Kaplan is not made for long hauls because it's sub-warp engine and limited crew space. It is meant to be a strategic ship for taking out other capital ships.

When it needs to though, it can sleep 4 in it's quarters.

Image

Main engineering is still a little bare but that will be dealt with. You can also see the airlock in the back and a medical cot in the foreground.

Image

Ahead of the quarters is the real bridge of the ship. A crew of 4 are needed on the bridge to run the ship properly.

Image

Housed in the bow of the ship is the Utility Bay. A large empty space, it can be used for and thing from cargo to a small expeditionary force. The ramp that comes down from here is the main point of entry for the ship. Most starbases or drydocks have a set of seats, usually put into the cargo bay of a ship like this when transport of people is required.

In assault circumstances, the Utility Bay is stocked with ordnace and used to baombard a planetary target from high orbit. The usual stock is 2 thermo-nuclear devices, 2 Mk III missiles and various other explosives and in some cases, gas and EMP weapons.

Image

The Airlock.

Oh I forgot to mention, the panels on either side of the quarters on the exterior of the ship house 2 Super-Heavy Laser Cannons each. These were inspired by the ones on Natalya's Venus Destroyer.

That's all for now. My next project is either a small gunboat for the Super Jews or a frigate for EnCor.

Another great ship of the line for the Super Jews. Each one just keeps getting better and better.

Great, Super Jews must be one of the coolest (and best equipped!) armies around.

It's cool, but I honestly have to say I liked the Shapiro better.

The ship has a nice blocky look but the lack of anything projecting underneath the vessel to balance the big gun turret on top makes it look more like a boat than a spacecraft. Fix that and add some detail to the white section in front, and it will be a whole lot better.

Nice build and colors, but I think there should be some sort of way that the pilots can see out of the bridge.

Nice ship with great weapons and lot of space. Would have been nice to see the crew with the ship.

To answer a couple questions:

There is no crew yet.

The bridge is put in the middle of the ship for a reason. If it's not sticking off somewhere its less likely to be shot off.

I would still like to put some sort of protruberance on the underside, it was in my original plans. The same goes for detailing the bow.

While I prefered the overall shape of the Shapiro better I think this just has better details and less muddled colours.

Constructive criticism of construction:
*better weapons than Shapiro
*worse frame

I agree. I wish I could have kept the shpae of the Shapiro but changed all the ugly muddy panelling in the back.

It does look more advanced and more mature. The old one in places looked like TLC designed it.

Thanks, that's sort of what I was going for. I've started building only for function, not for fashion.
