Repairing Lego Capes...

Post by Timedude » Tue May 15, 2012 7:07 pm

Not "bricks" per se, but... Any thoughts on stemming the fraying of your favorite Lego capes? I did a few quick Google searches and turned up bupkiss, wondered if any of you had ideas on how to keep your favorite capes from becoming tattered messes. I know for some it adds to the "badass weathered, apocalyptic blah blah", and those do look cool, but things like say Harry Potter star-capes don't get any favors once they start to come appart. I was thinking of maybe trying to trim the frayed segment ever so slightly and then seal the edge with a thin bead of superglue, but if anyone else has an idea that yielded success, I'd love to hear it!

if you have a friend that sews you could just ask them to fix it, that's what i do
though once they're like that they make better trench coats (and they're easy to make into one to, all you need is a pocketknife)

Paint with a mixture of clear acrylic matte medium and water. You just need to add enough water to let the acrylic medium soak into the fabric. Once it's dry, it'll be sealed and protected from further fraying, so you can trim off the frayed bits. Use sharp scissors, and make sure it really is dry before you do the trimming.

White glue thinly brushed on will do the same as matte medium, and is easier to get your grubby nubs on.

I've tried this in the past, just keep in mind that the water-solubility of white glue makes it a less durable solution than the acrylic in the longer term.

So stop washing your capes in hot water! I have all of mine professionally dry cleaned and pressed.

Hmm, actually spray starch isn't a bad alternative either for small temporary fixes.

the FBI says thank you.
Often, literally, a pillow fight but may include similar situations like volleyball, particularly when wardrobe is skimpy and the action is bouncy.
