Mobile Frame Zero: Ottawa, ON (update 18th of August)

Post by CADmonkey » Sun Jan 04, 2015 3:06 pm

Ok, it’s not BrikWars, but it is plastic brick wargaming, and I know there's a few other folks from Ottawa on this forum, so I'll be using this thread to announce and discuss MFZ events in the Ottawa area and updating this post whenever something new is coming up.

18th of August, 2019 edit:

I'll be running a demo table at the August RPG Mini-Con next weekend at the Ecclesiax Church, in the Glebe.

Details for the con are all on the Ottawa Gatineau Gamer Meetup group here.

Mini's, dice and everything required to play will be provided. If you haven't played MFZ:RA yet, here's your chance to try it out!

Wow, been a while since I've posted here.

18th of August, 2019 edit 2:

I've also scheduled another Mobile Frame Zero demo at Fandom II on the 7th of September.

I'll be at Fandom II at noon. I'll be supplying Frames, rulers, dice, and everything else needed for anyone interested in a demo game.

As always, if you're looking for a full game you can bring your own Company, Stations & terrain. I'll be bringing a full Company as well and will be happy to have a pick-up game if I’m free.

It's been so long, I still had links to my G+ profile in my sig.

We had a great game yesterday (31st of January, 2015), my first with more than two players, in fact. Didn't take any notes, but I did take some pictures, and the album is here. Some of the photos (all of Xenovorous' frames) turned out pretty well:

Now that I no longer have to keep my arm in a sling when I go out, I'm going to start organizing regular MFZ events again. To that end, I've scheduled a demo at the FLGS downtown, and I'll be running a demo table at an upcoming convention in October. Details in the (edited) OP above.

Of course I have to live in Edmonton right now. Guess my company will have to remain mothballed for the time being.

Well, that's what you get for moving to Canada's boiler room.

Xenovorous and I had a blast running demos almost non-stop at Capital Gaming Expo this past weekend. We had a lot of enthusiastic folks trying out MFZ for the first time, and we made a lot of great connections. I was a little disappointed to only see a couple of the traditional mini's wargamers I know drop by, but that's just the nature of the space I guess, all the gaming spaces aren't contiguous. But all 'round, it was a great time!

May have been a bit of that, but the Nepean Sportsplex is a bloody awful maze.

To get from the miniatures wargaming hall to the boardgame/cardgame/rpg hall where we were would involve: leaving the mini's hall; turning right; then left; left again and down a ramp; another left down another ramp; turning 180 degrees and going down a half flight of stairs; turning right; another half flight of stairs down; turning right; a half flight of stairs up; one more right and you're there!

Or you could: exit the mini's hall; take the elevator to the ground floor; exit the sportsplex and walk across the parking lot; re-enter the sportsplex; turn left; up a half flight of stairs; turn right and you're there!

Edit: And of course, I didn't visit the traditional mini's gaming area myself, even though I used to run the local Heavy Gear demo team.
