Novium (Futuristic Fantasy)

NOVIUM

Planet’s Origins:

In BY 2011, when Warhead left Midevo, a strong power rippled through space exposing a once hidden planet, Novium, tucked away in the corner of the galaxy. Novium is rich of natural resources, and much like Midevo, it is home to various fantasy races.

History:

In BY 2012, Before the current age stood a great human empire, Therenth, on the main continent of Novium. Therenth encompassed the vast southern plains and coasts becoming the economic, political, and cultural center of the continent. Its lands bordered the mountain fortresses of the dwarves in the east who provided the empire with metals and ores. Therenth’s coasts shared waters with the island homes of the high elves to the south, who exchanged the riches of the seas and arcane arts with the empire. In the east, plains bled into the forest homes of the wood elves who provided the empire with resources of their woodland habitats. Man, dwarf, and elf worked together to run the vast empire, basking in the riches and leisure it provided. However, not all was well.

Though the empire flourished in life, there were those who only sought death and destruction. Urk hordes of the marshlands and plains just north of the empire constantly raided small villages. Occasionally they engaged in skirmishes with empire, even trying to siege large cities. Although the threat of the Urks was serious, it was mostly manageable. Rumors of legions of undead in the frozen lands of the North circulated. Various Cults of daemon worshippers were hidden in pockets amongst major cities. The woods to the east housed mysterious elves who were said to be worshipping a dragon that resided there.

In late BY 2013, The event happened. Huge war machines of what could only be described as metal and magik fell from the sky into the lands of Novium. Unbeknownst to the inhabitants of the planet, Large SHIPs from various Space empires were warring above the planet in hopes of laying claim to its resources. A council of all the major allied races were called, Humans, Dwarves, and Elves alike. Through their combined efforts and powerful Magiks, they erected The Great Magikal Barrier; an energy field around the planet that prevented any of the spacefarring empires from entering, but also prevented anyone from Novium leaving. This barrier was maintained by four powerful flames that was split amongst the races. The flame of Aurantiaco was given to the Dwarves, The flame of Viridi given to the Humans, the flame of Caeruleum to the High Elves, and the flame of Casia given to the Wood Elves of the west. This ensured that one race alone did not control all the flames, and that they would be separated from one another, so that the barrier would remain in tact.

The Human Empire began to crumble in BY 2015. Factions got ahold of more advanced technology from the crashed space crafts, bringing abought greater levels of destructive force than previously seen. One of the SHIPs that crashed in the north awoke the Legions of undead, who descended from the Northern mountains upon man, dwarf, elf, and orc alike. Their numbers were great and their resolve unending. bringing the end of the Empire of Therenth and the death of a majority of the human population. Not all was a loss for the undead legions had thinned and dissipated as well, bringing a brief peace to the land. The old Empire was fragmented and no more, and the flame of Viridi falling into the hand of the Urks. What was left of the humans retreated into the greatest Dwarven mountain fortress of Dag Loduhr, where the flame of Aurantiaco was kept. The high elves fortified their home in the Misty Isles and locked away the flame of Caeruleum, where they began to drift in familarity with their old alliances. The dark elves of the west remained isolated in their woods, shrouded in mystery and holding onto the flame of Casia. The Urks continued to ravage across the plains destroying anything that was left to destroy and growing more powerful from their stolen flame. The undead have retreated to the North and disappeared, but of how long? No one knows.

Dwarven Kingdom of Dag Loduhr (Updated October 2019)

The strongest and largest mountain fortress of the dwarves, Dag Loduhr, resisted relentless attacks of the undead legion. Fortified with technology from crashed SHIPs coupled with the natural defenses of the Crimson Hills, it is a near impenetrable fortress. The dwarves are master engineers and a proud warrior race. They take residence primarily in mountain settlements around the mighty fortress and offer protection to the last of the human population nestled in the valley.

Crimson Guard

General infantry of the Dwarven Kingdom, the crimson guard are equipped with basic blaster rifles adorned with RTaxe blades to intimidate foes and provide a little extra damage in close combat.

Dwarven BoomSticks
Image
Image
The primary ranged unit of Dag Loduhr, the Boom-Sticks are armed with long ranged rifles. With deadly aim, they support the close combat units from the back lines

Crimson Hammers
Image
Image
Clad is red steel body armor, the Crimson Hammers are the main melee force. Pummeling foes into the earth with their mighty war hammers, they often leave behind of trail of red-stained earth.

Dwarven Grenadiers
Image
Image
Spitting fire and explosions onto the ranks of the enemy, Grenadiers use a concoction of explosions and missiles to deal with all sorts of targets. There is friendly competition within their ranks to see who can launch body parts the longest from a single explosion.

Dwarven SkyBursters
Image
Equipped with a ROBUST jet pack, the fliers hop around the battlefield eliminating specific target with surprise attacks or explosive charges.

Dwarven Engineers
Image
Engineers serve the dual purpose of meckanik and pilot. They can fix anything and drive anything, often commandeering vehicles from their enemies.

BattleWorn
Image
Being BattleWorn is one of the highest honors. When a dwarf has proven himself on the battlefield with extreme feats of glory and honor, they can become a BattleWorn. Most BattleWorn are older, but don't let that fool you in terms of aptitude, skill, and agility... they are among the deadliest warriors. BattleWorn serve as an elite guard protecting the Keep of Dag Loduhrand and advisors to the Dwarven King.

Groteth, The Great Tinkerer
Image
A master engineer, Groteth leads the engineering division in constructing the best dwarven technology. Great minds like Groteth are the reason why the dwarves are more technologically advanced than many other races of Novium.

Khougret, The Keeper of Tomes & Master of Runes
Image
A master of the magikal arts, Khougret is said to rival even some of the greatest elven mages. He is the keeper of the vast library in the Dag Lodhur Keep where is studies magik and history to assist the kingdom in their advancement of goals and defense against the other races. Khougret has a habit of disappearing for long periods of time but showing up right when he is needed. Most say he is just locked away with his nose in tomes, but there are some rumors from some of his understudies that he travels between worlds.

Nudolir Golden Helm, King of Dag Loduhr and Lord of the Crimson Hills
Image
Nudolir was a champion for the Empire of Therenth taking on over 50 ghouls at one point to allow the remaining humans to flee into the Crimson Hills. Nudolir is a warrior at heart and leads Dag Lodhur with the help of a wise council including Battleworn, Groeth, Khougret, and other dwarves of wisdom.

Dawn Elves of the Misty Isles

After the fall of the Empire, the Elves retreated back into the Misty Isles. Dawn Elves by title, Luxsyrin or high elves by race, they are masters of the arcane arts and known across Novium for it. They are isolated and self contained among the island, with their King holding up in the Great Star Keep, Evrais. Evaris, and the island as a whole are protected by various enchantments from both air and sea. However, there are rumors that the isles can still be accessed through a star bridge, but no one knows where it is, what it looks like, and what it even is.

Note about Elves: There are three races of "pure" elves in Novium: The Dawn Elves, the Twilight Elves, and the Dusk elves . Those titles are more colloquial, while their actual racial names are Luxyrin for Dawn, Grisyrin for Twilight, and Umbsyrin for Dawn. All three elven lineages can be traced back to the same ancestor, but when the split happened and for what reason is lost to time.

Elven Wardens
Image
Image
Armed with crystal embedded rifles, Wardens shoot bolts of magikal energy that are highly lethal. Though Wardens are the standard infantry unit of the elves, they are more skilled and fewer in number than most other races.

Elven Vanguard
Image
Because of their small numbers and general isolation from the rest of Novium, The elves often accomplish their goals through small stealth operations. The Vanguard are the stealth forces that carry out operations for the interest of Evaris across all of Novium.

Telvidetha & Elven Myrmidon
Image
Image
Image
Myrmidon are both the honor guard and elite units of the Star Elves. Wield their elongated blades with finesse and strength or sporting intricately crafted riles they are a force that is as deadly as it is showy. They are led by Telvidetha, an exceptionally skilled warrior and attractive face that makes for great PR.

Ninavi & The Elven StarCallers
Image
Starcallers are gifted magik users within the military ranks. They are led by Ninavi, she is the 4th Mage-Master of the 10 that govern the Island, in both battle and magikal research. Ninavi finds herself only concerned with the outside world when it directly affects her research.

Melezac
Image
The 6th Mage-Master, Melezac is more brash and domineering in his views of how the Misty Isles should relate to the outside world. Seeing the Elves as superior, he seeks a path to unite all three of the elven races back to their common ancestry and place them in a position of power over all of Novium. Though he will still play friendly with the dwarves, The Dawn Elves' biggest ally, he resents them for the position of power that they hold.

Prine Taeral Zinrel, The Star Child
Image
Prince Taeral Zinrel is the son of Olrunin Zinrel, the Elven commander who delivered the Elves safely to the Island. He was revered as the chosen one, the Star Child, sent from the heavens to lead the elves. After his passing, the title of Star Child was passed onto his only son, Taeral. Ruling in the shadow of his father, Taeral is often afraid of messing things up and destroying his dad's legacy. Taeral is the leader of the Misty Isle and the First Mage-Master that rules the isles. Picture above flanked by Evaris Guards.

Storm Golem (need updated photos)
Image
Though the elves do not possess the technological aptitude of the dwarves, they use their gifting in magik to make up for it. The storm Golem in a mechanical golem bound together with magik and given its own mind. It is equipped with various types of weaponry for a variety of situations making it the staple infantry support for the the elves.

Undead Swarm

One of the SHIPs crashed into the frigid mountains of the north, awakening the undead legions previously lodged in ice. Not much is known of the undead, as they have not been seen for many ages. Legends say they are the physical embodiment of death come to wipe the slate clean, others believe its the work of crazy necromancers hulled up in the icy cliffs. Taking advantage of the newly introduced technology as well, swarms scourge the lands and collect more bodies to bolster their numbers

Overwatch
Image

Ghouls
Image
The ghouls can overtake most armies by sheer numbers alone. Although they are fragile, they are fast and once upon you will rip the flesh from your body.

Update (5.10.16)
Image
I made the heads posable/attached at the shoulders. I got the parts right after I took photos and didn't want to re-do the group, so here is one updated ghoul.

Necro-Gunners
Image
The Necro-Gunners are the brunt of the undead legion after the ghouls. They carry long range weapons that can melt the flesh off of mortals.

(Update 5.24.16) Skirmishers
Image
A slightly more hardy melee unit than the ghoul, but still fragile. Its strength lies in its resistance to range attacks.

Tomb Calvary
Image
Unlike zombies, mummies have better cognitive capabilities which is why they are selected for the tomb calvary. Equipped with a laser lance and heavy shield, they storm the battlefield on their undead steeds reeking havoc on their unsuspecting victims.

Banshees (design adapted from Zahru)
Image
Banshees are spellcaster / support units. They can cast curses, but their primary ability is to possess other units on the battlefield, giving the undead legion control of their enemies' warriors.

Necrolytes
Image
the Necrolytes are offensive spellcasters and servants under the necromancer. They are known for their death bolts which can kill the living or bring back the undead.

Necromancer
Image
The Necromancer is skilled in the arts of death magik and conjuration. Although he is a master of the death bolt, he favors more advanced conjuration and resurrection spells to add numbers to the undead flanks.

Update (5.24.16)
Image
Gave the Necromancer a red scarf thing to match the necrolytes

Vampyre Revenants
Image
Elite units among the undead, Revenants are masters at both close combat and blood magik. They are immortal making them hard to kill.

Vampyre Lord
Image
The Vampyre Lord is superior to the revenants. His Phantom blade can ignore enemy armor and cut straight through their spirit.

Shadow Reaper
Image
Reapers are agents of death who take minfig souls to their respective afterlife. The shadow reaper has gone rogue and raised an army of the dead to do his bidding, but what are his intentions?

Update (6.24.16) Artillery Reaver
Image
A spider-like abomination outfitted with a medium sized artillery cannon, the reaver is a threat from long distance while its razor sharp limbs also make it a threat in close combat.

BlackRock Horde

The largest of the SHIPs crashed into the middle of the great plains, shaping a small spire of mountains as it bore into the earth. Great Shamans and Warcheifs of various urk clans gathered their people to the site of now known as Black Rock. The tribes have banded together to protect the site forming the Black Rock Horde of their new home, Black Rock. The Urks have salvaged much of the technology of the space-men of the crashed vessel and use it to assert their dominance over the plains of Novium. They pillage and destroy anyone who crosses their path claiming allegiance to no one, even lesser urk tribes.

BerzURKers

Ditching long ranged weaponry and armor, BerzURKers want to get into the action as quickly and fiercely as possible. Sometimes they move so fast and recklessly that they get multiple swings of their axes in before the enemy can even grab their weapons.

Shaman

Practitioner of the dark arts, the shaman uses rituals and vodoo magik to support the urks in battle.

Cybernetic augmentation has turned an already menacing troll into a death machine. Optic implants help increase the aim of the size 2 battle rifle while the plasma arm cuts down anyone close.

Human Guilds

Within the recesses of the mountain kingdom of Dag Loduhr opens up a small but enclosed valley. In this valley lives the last of the humans. The human population is ruled under the dwarves but maintains small amounts of autonomy to self govern and does so through the guild system. The population is divided into a multitude of Guilds which are overseen by the Guild-master. The Guild-master establishes and enforces guild law through the militia. There are close to a hundred guilds, but the most notable of them are: Farmers', Engineers', Smithers', Merchants', Academics', Alchemists', Sorcerers', and infamous Deamon Hunters'.

Guild Law Enforcement Militant (GLEM)

GLEM is the acting hand of the Guild-Master. They are made up of what was left of the Human empire of old. The force is sizeable enough to do its job, and maybe defend against a smaller attacks such as bandits, but they are nowhere near capable of taking on the Black Rock hordes or any other serious threats.

Overwatch

Knight Constructs
Image
A work of ingenuity between the Engineer's Guild and the Sorcerer's Guild, the knight constructs are suits of armor that operate off machine and magik. The Knights are used because bodies are scarce. It is easier to fix or replace a construct than it is a human life.

Knight Enforcers
Image
The knights are the main policing member of the Guild Law Enforcement Agency. They make sure everything is running up to code so that the guild system thrives. They also act as protectors of the various guilds, but they have only ever had to deal with small internal threats since they are under the watch of Dag Loduhr.

Paladins are the Champions and leaders of GLEM.

Theodoric the Guardian
Image
Head Paladin of the Militant. Theodoric served in the army of old as a captain. He is admired as both a strong and wise leader in the human village and commands vast respect.

Galfridus the Mighty
Image
No man is stronger than Galfridus. Local whispers say that one swing of his hammer can turn a boulder into pebbles. Galfridus is resolute to the law and values order and discipline. Everything is black and white with him, and his goal is to ride the world of all that corrupts the good.

Sewell the Daring
Image
Sewell is the youngest Paladin, having trained under Theodoric and Galfridus. His ultimate goal is good, but he is willing to do whatever it takes to get there. This has caused clashes with Galfridus, but Theodoric has balanced the two of them out. Seeds of doubt in the guilds have began to grow in Sewell's heart causing a lot of internal turmoil.

Daemon Hunter's Guild

The Daemon Hunters' Guild is quite small, but is still one of the most notable for its reputation. The guild has helped combat some of the greatest threats to and within Dag Loduhr. The Hunters each seem larger than life because they wield unique and powerful weapons which they have used to become legends .

Overwatch
Image

Janyn
Image
Janyn is a skilled archer and half-elf who carries the Silver Bow. The Bow was made in the star forge on the Misty Isles under the first full moon at the beginning of the new age. Arrows shot from the bow are imbued with the power of the heavens causing them to be super-effective against the undead.

Malina the Sword of Dawn
Image
Malina is a valiant knight who wields the Sun-Blade being best described as beams of radiating sunlight. The sword can cut through other weapons and sometimes sets those hit by it on fire. Malina's sword shines bright as her knightly honor earning her the nick-name, Sword of Dawn.

Drake
Image
Once part of the Guild-master's militia, he lost his arm in a peasant uprising caused by demonic possession. The Engineers Guild built Drake a multi-functional arm that can: shoot beams of heat, form into a shield, form into an axe, or function as a normal arm.

Haldraic
Image
Haldraic wields the legendary cannon: Dragon's Fire. The cannon has multiple functions that allow the blasts shot from it to do a variety of things. Blasts can curve and move around objects. Dragon's fire can launch two separate blasts at the same time to hit multiple targets, or combine the blasts into one powerful shot. the cannon is hard to use and it took haldraic years to master it.

Cloyorn the Priest.
Image
Cloyorn does not possess a legendary weapon or advance combat skills, instead he possess wells of knowledge. Cloyorn is the Deamon Hunter's Guild leader and resident Deamonologist. He knows everything there is to know about deamons and provides guild members with missions and intel. He is also a skilled healer and alchemist who is able to treat the wounds of his guild members when they come back from assignments.

Priests of the Higher Planes

A small guild of those who practice the religion of the Higher Plane. They worship beings in hopes to attract their favor and be blessed. The ultimate goal is to attract enough favor to be brought into the higher plane themselves, this is called transcendence.

Image
The high priest is more of a Pharisee while the lower priests are true believers.

Twilight Elves

Formally the Wood elves or Girsyrin, the Twilight Elves seek refuge deep in the Western Woods. Much like the High elves, the Twilight elves are adept in the arts of the arcane, however, their source of magik differs. Not much is known about the twilight elves for they are reclusive and hostile to outsiders. Some believe they are allies of the urks, others believe they swear allegiance to the undead, and many believe them to be extinct. The scholars of the Academist Guild have dreamed of studying them, but traveling across the plain to the forest is a death wish. Not much is actually known about the twilight elves, it is mostly conjecture, but some have claimed to see a great winged beast soar over the west on ocassion.

Note about Elves: There are three races of "pure" elves in Novium: The Dawn Elves, the Twilight Elves, and the Dusk elves. Those titles are more colloquial, while their actually racial names are Luxyrin for Dawn, Grisyrin for Twilight, and Umbsyrin for Dawn.
