Big Swords vs. Little Swords

Post by Silverdream » Tue Jul 05, 2016 4:49 am

There is no choice for both. Don't be a pansy and leave a copout answer.

What do you like more, big swords, or little swords?

To be honest, I used to hate the big, long swords that were seen in things like Final Fantasy. They looked too impractical to be cool. This changed when I read Berserk, and when I began using a two handed sword in LARP. Larger reach is just such a big advantage. I even got to hold a sword that was bigger than me once.

Sure, that sword was made of 100% Nippon steel, and thus already stronger than more materials, but it's length gave it unparalleled power. I could slice an elephant in half if I wanted to.

I used to fence so I'm all about little swords. As long as you can dodge the first big slash you can just get right in there and stab a sucka through his heart. Small, thin weapons are used by the graceful. Big swords are for giant oafs like you.

Big swords tucker you out faster. I feel they are only effective in media like anime and manga because the people wielding them are unbelievably strong. They use the power of friendship / protecting the ones the love / whatever shit to get the extra power. If you are a Miami beach body builder, a big sword could be useful. I'd rather go with a smaller sword and a shield.

In anime I like the big unrealistic swords.

Swords? Pff! Why use something like that when you could use a warhammer or mace? Smash right through your opponents armor crush their bones bring them down in two swings rather than having an elongated duel.

Or, if you're into unconventional and fancy stuff, have a horseman's pick:

Not that unconventional. I got a bunch from Little Armory when they were still around; now you can get them from Brick Warriors as well:

I've been already tooling around a possible brick-built design for these:

Fun fact: Arnold Schwarzenegger actually had to lose muscle for Conan the Barbarian in order to swing his sword with a full motion.

Victim shaming.

Fun fact: Arnold Schwarzenegger actually had to have sex with the maid in order to swing his sword with a full motion.

I like big swords because of Skyrim Elderscrolls 5, but I found it hard to choose. In real life I guess little swords would be more practical.

Yeah but why use a sword when you can be a coward and shoot em at a distance?

Why not combine these two things?
