Sabre Class Frigate

Post by RoC77 » Fri Aug 14, 2009 12:36 pm

Well, I'm still working on my main SHIP(which still has a lot to go), but with all this talk of ship's I felt like building one of the escorts I've been planning. So here it is.... The Sabre class frigate!

It's main armament is a pair of heavy anti-ship missiles on its starboard side & a heavy plasma cannon on the bow.
Image

Also, for smaller targets it's armed with a pair of heavy auto cannon turrets on both sides.
Image

And it round's it off with a quad missile rack on the stern. Above it's massive engines.....
Image

It has a main section where it houses the controls & living area, and engine room at the back, and it also has a hold in between which carries a pair of D-Pods!

Defense Pod's are small one man pod's that are designed for anti-fighter defense.

Armed with a rocket & an auto cannon, they are able to take down most fighters.

The ship carries a crew of 4. 2 for the C & C and the other 2 are pilots for the D-Pods. Also, she's about 50 studs long.....

I used a lot of common pieces to build this, since I might be making another one. And I held off on greebling it too much since I am saving that for my ship, I'll come back to this with whatever I have left.....
(please excuse the low quality pics, I should be getting my camera back soon, and I will replace these with higher quality pics.)

I am jealous, nothing else to say.

Except make another one. We both know that more of one thing is amazing.

Roc, this is a fantastic looking ship, very clever use of SNOT. The size of the fighters is to me bothersome but I'll be the first to admit that they are very inventive. I'm not sure of the Boat Bay that houses them but I'm amazed at how many it can hold.

If it was mine to class I would put this ship in the Gunboat class. Convoy Escort/Patrol Craft - It looks made to order for that type of role. What's the ships compliment?

Thank everyone for the comments!

@OneEye589

Yeah, when I'm done with my SHIP I plan on making one more(and another type of escort if possible). I have another engine built & I have the pieces for another pair of D-Pods, but I still have to see how much Lego I have left.

@james+burgundy

Thx, I omitted the Peach crew for you.....

@Warhead

Well it was intentionaly built to be an escort type ship, but then I noticed I could expand it to accomidate the D-Pods. And considering that it has this capability I decided to go for the larger frigate designation. And by Natalya's classification of ships on the Brikwars wiki site it falls under that criteria.......

Yeah they are small, but thier intention is all defense, they are small & agile and designed for space flight only & to operated close to the main ship. I have full fledged fighters, but they are docked in my main SHIP I am building, so don't let it bother you too much..... :wink:

Oh, I'm not quite sure by what you meant as compliment , but it has a fighter complement of 2 D-Pods & a crew compliment of 4 (2 to crew the ship & 2 pilots)

Alright, this baby needs to take on Natalya's Rhett Butler's Revenge, and don't give me any of that "shes on the other side of the country" crap.

Seriously though, great job, this is the perfect counter for that (even down to the cute mini fighters).

RBR could probably outrun this thing and is bigger overall. However the armaments on it aren't as good. It would be an interesting fight.

Umm, regarding its design, RoC this is a little too blocky, even for you. Put some angles or something...

If it was designed to work independently of a fleet, I would call it a patrol ship, or a monitor. If there's a fleet to go with it, I would say Assault frigate,
or a heavy frigate, either way, it's awesome. BTW I think the Grey-ness and blockiness help it fit with the rest of your army's vehicles. Excellent work.

lookin good this battle on the 30th is going to be insane. theres nothing else to describe the amount of ships that will be participating in battle. also like the d-pods as a answer to the fighters/swarmers though i only have one swarmer. i had to build an anti fighter ship just because the HODGEPODGE GRAND can not cover all facings.

the hodgepadge is up to 152 or there abouts in stud length or 47 inches.

Dang. Wish I could make it, we'll have to schedule another SHIP on SHIP brikwar sometime, I'll probably finish my battlecruiser in a few weeks.

Well, I would say you have achieved what you were going for with Escort Duty, I could imagine the surprise a few of these would cause raiders when such small ships spit out a cloud of fighters into the teeth of an attack. Looking forward to the main ship being complete. Blocky or not I liked this design.

compliment/complement :oops: Yeah, you got it right. Cheers.
