Desperate Alliances Round 1

Post by Bragallot » Wed Feb 17, 2010 6:05 pm

Turn 1 The Dwellers

Miranda: "To the river! We'll have them fill him up with their dead before we let them cross it!"

Image

"Aim well men!" (the Bulls were out of range at this time so they waited)

Image

Wolfpack rangers moved to the other side of the tower.

Image

Realizing the ranged forces might want some support should the enemy close, Van and Chewblaccand kicked into action and lead their groups to the river as well.

Image

They took up positions along the side of it, weapons held ready to strike.

Image

The Dweller's leaders were prepared to fight shoulder to shoulder like they had done on so many occassions.

Image

The giant shielded the Wolfpack rangers from harm.

Turn 2 The Imperials

Hmm... I think I feel a rather inspiring speech coming up!

Image

"ALRIGHT, LISTEN UP MEN!"

Horse: Not again.

Image

"Jeez!" *thump*

Image

Bodyguard: "Milord! Are you alright?"

Cales: "Yes, perfectly okay, lovely. I only took 1d6 falling damage on brown soil because of it's low structure level and the roll crit failed, the opposite from what it should have done to defeat my armour, so chances were slim I'd lose one of my HP."

Bodyguard: "I don't understand a word you're saying!"

Cales: "Uhh, nvm."

Image

Cales' accident seemed to have discouraged some of his men, but at least the banners waved proudly upon the wind, and some good ol' sergeant barking inspired the boys to not let themselves be killed too easily. "If ye get yerself killed I'll kill ye meself!" (flag effects last 1 round effectively)

Image

The rhytm of many marching feet began to sound as the imperial infantry moved out to secure their part of the river. The squad of swordsmen marched off to give the Dwellers the melee support they needed.

Image

Sharlena almost effortlessly cast one of the more simple spells in her spellbook...

Image

... and the swordsmen rejoiced as their armour somehow felt lighter, allowing them to move up another inch. (not a permanent effect)

Image

The purple mage tried his hand at a slightly more difficult, arcane spell.

Image

The elite swordsmen felt more secure as a mild sphere of protective magic appeared around them. (works once for each unit in the squad)

Turn 3 The Bulls

General: "Formation advance!"

Image

"OPEN FIRE!"

Arrows whizzed through the air and gunshots sounded as the Dwellers let loose of their bowstrings and the Starcapes aimed for things way at the back of the encroaching bull army.

Image

General: "Shields up men!" (I increased basic range of bows to 15'' because I thought 10'' really wasn't enough if they couldn't even shoot at each other from across the river)

Image

Arrows bounced off shields and armour, but three hit home mostly thanks to the good marksmanship of the Wolfpack Rangers, and first blood was achieved. The general shrugged off Miranda's arrow. Both glared at each other from across the river. (a heavy also got to deal with a near miss from a ranger, not pictured here)

Image

The Starcapes' shots at the Bull commanders that were still out of range ended up hitting others but didn't kill, but then two more big bangs tore through the air...

The cannons had fired and proven succesful, taking down a phalanx captain and a warrior in the front row. (I decided not to picture the cannons every time they fired)

Image

General: "Return fire!"

Image

The crossbowmen took aim but the dice gods were really bad tempered and let them all miss or do very little damage at all. They fired at the starcapes in the towers, the furbeasts and even the giant but I had to picture none of those because nothing happened to them. I genuinely felt bad for the Bulls this round but the dice hath spoken!

The idle ranger's attention was suddenly pulled away from the battle by something far more disturbing... whether it were their noses or other senses that picked up the threat was unsure.

"Look there!"
"Holy crap!"

Image

Secret faction 1 has entered play: The Undead Vanguard!

Image

Skeletons lined up around the flanks with a slow zombie phalanx unit leading the way, and behind that the necromancer's even more sinister servants stood. Bitchy witches, dangerous at range, Shadows, known for the nigh unstoppable reign of terror they had brought upon the Kingdom, and a dangerous disciple skilled in the dark arts.

Necromancer: "Mortals... battling. They just had to crowd the area on my day out didn't they?"

Necromancess: "Your servants are with you, my master. We'll crush every last one of them if it is necessary."

Necromancer: "Their presence is a mere annoyance, nothing more, but look across the river..."

Image

Secret faction 2 has entered play: Knights of Kerrat!

And indeed, there, a company of knights came upon the battle. They were few in number, but powerful even individually.

Image

Brave travellers or those well-schooled in history would have recognized them by the crests on their shields: it were the knights of Kerrat, a realm to the south, isolated by the rough landscape, that had long since split off from the Kingdom under impossible circumstances and after terrible events. What brought these men so far from their homes could only be guessed; no man alive could remember them coming this far into the Kingdom's territory!

Image

Lord Wrynn: "A battle!"
Sir Garth: "Don't let anything interfere with our mission here, brothers!"

Those should have been larger, I know.

Accepting orders from everyone now. Remember turn order depends on this ^^.

Lovin the battle, lovin it.

Hey Bragallot, j/c, are the mages using heroic feats to cast spells, or are you using the SP system from 2001?

I'm giving the spells a use rating depending on what they're trying to achieve and then rolling their skill (1d6+1) against it, and depending on how hard it fails or how well it succeeds I may add side effects / make the effect larger or smaller than requested.
