Feudal japan, as said in the link provided by QS, it was a time of ninjas, samurai, betrayal, warrior monks (I'm not kidding, there were warrior monks) and powerful clans competing for the ultimate prize: the city of Kyoto. (Then capital of japan at the time) and while this part is my personal favorite, there are plenty of other interesting parts, like the great conquerors that Asia has produced over the centuries,like genghis khan and atila the Hun, to name a few.

Anything I don't know?

Despite how cliched it is, yo've gotta give two things to RWBY, first, it's friggin beautiful at times, second the intro to the second season is just badass. It could never have hoped to live up to red vs blue, but I'd say, Monty made an effort.

I tried to like RWBY but it was jut fucking dumb. Looks like it was made in MMD by you average 12 year old, and the voice acting is just terrible. I could probably look past that if the story was good, but nope. Maybe it gets better, but when the opening scene is a bunch of badly voiced bad guys robbing a store and then having edgy grimdark red riding hood pull out her sycthe and be like "PSSSH NOTHING PERSONAL KID" to attack a bunch of grown men i lost interest.

I just watched the first episode and I totally agree. The animation is pretty ugly too.

Monty Oum is an animator, not a writer. He did write RWBY tough, so that might be the reason.
