dilanski wrote:Quick question on the upcoming changes. Does the Marksman function like the Marksmanship specialty from 2001?
Nope. The new marksman has a d8 that he can use when making ranged attacks with a minifig ranged weapon. Each turn, he can choose to make his ranged attack with Skill d8, Range +1d8", or replace a damage die with a d8.
dilanski wrote:Also what is the function of the Commando unit? Awhile back there was a discussion about running Commando/Special Forces as Officers minus the command ability. But the listed stats clearly have him as something different.
A Commando unit can duplicate any d8-based Specialty, but with a d6 instead.

Small discrepancy in chapter 10. In the manipulator's chart, the following is said about natural attacks:
one natural CC attack, equivalent to one Melee Weapon up to Creature Size
However, in the description below about find and gross manipulators, the following is said about free natural attacks:
Creatures without hands can have one free natural Close Combat attack equivalent to a Size 1" Melee Weapon
The former seems to indicate that a larger creation with gross manipulators could have a free CC Natural Attack of even 2" or more. The latter suggests that the only free natural attack is always Size 1", no matter how big the creation.

Pretty good-sized updates throughout the rulebook today - see especially the additions to
Chapter 11 and
Chapter D. The new unit stat listings in chapter 11 aren't locked in yet; just ignore them for a little while until I get those squared up.
I've also upoaded a bunch of stickers to the
BrikStickers page, in case you wanted funny laptop decals to give out for winter steam sale holiday or whatever.

Took a look at some recent updates and I hafta admit that the 2010 ruleset strikes me as quite overblown, like if it's 2001 all over again.
It tries too solve too much problems that are way beyond the scope of a mere brick-based wargame system (such as how to resolve story related issues between two competing armies) and it could be compressed into fewer and shorter chapters.

Did you notice that they hid "The Human" under a mature content warning.
So it wont display until you go to its page than click a button to show it.
At first I thought it would be the valkyrie.

True. The next revision round is largely about paring down again.

Did anyone else notice that the summoning was OP? Before the item summoning i would of had to use 10d10s to make the equivalent of a xsize 10 bomb, but now, i just use my d12 (plus range), and BAM! Troop carrier goes up in flames. Size 10 with 5d10 armor, gets hit with 88 damage, then 113. Seems a bit unbalanced at the moment... Expecially when heavy explosives are involved.

Wait, what? I don't think I understand any of what you just said. How are you using that d12 exactly?

Did you try turning the d12 on/off?

I use it to summon in a heavy exploseve with a high xsize, and explosives cost xsize * cp, so the explosive can be bought. If you look at the new chapter D, there is a rule for supernaturally summoned items, so i presume that a heavy explosive could be bought using the supernatural object summoning rules?

Wait, now I see what you're saying - you're using the d12 to pay the Purchased Object price of a size 10 Explosive, and then summoning it at the site of the target.
There are a couple of safeguards built in - there's only a 25% chance of making the roll of 10 on d12 (and a 8% chance of rolling a 1 and having enemies use the d12 against you instead), and there's also the chance of blowing the Range roll so that the bomb appears right next to yourself instead of at the target. Summoning an explosive device from thin air also has to fit in with your supernatural cliche, which is fine if you're Gokuu but otherwise not super common.
You'd also have to spend a die to buy a Mind for the bomb to set itself off, because you wouldn't be able to activate it remotely, unless you spent a die to buy yourself a remote control as well.
But yeah, maybe that does leave a lot of room for abuse. I'll have to think about it.

But if you are using a supernatural staff... you don't need to roll range... right?
Oh yeah... you could also do a rule like...
"Explosive devices are too complicated to be supernaturally summoned, kind of like humans."

True, although 10" range is definitely not enough to take you outside the blast radius of a size 10 explosion.
The real limit here would be the size limit though. You can only summon a size 1 object with a single die.
Or wait - I guess it doesn't say that for purchased objects, now that I look at it again. I think that's the part I need to fix.
