LEGO needs to bring back those barbed wire pieces.

Yes absolutely, they where awesome. It's just that you needed so many.
I don't remember who but somebody just twisted some chain pieces tightly in one of their battles and it looked very convincingly like barbed wire.

That was the best one I thought of.

You could also get a bar and clip a bunch of loose hands on to it in different directions.

you could also just string some non-lego metallic wire around

yeah..I would definitely just use some actual wire for that. There's nothing saying you have to use 100% actual official lego products in all of your builds.
