(The Great War) The Principauté de Violette

Post by Captain Primrose » Sun Mar 28, 2021 6:18 pm

-History-

The Principauté de Violette is small, neutral nation, north of the commonwealth.

While it was officially formed in 1804, ethnic Violetten's have lived in Montagnes since the end of the Grecian empire. Distinguishable mostly by their hair, pointed ears, and tall, slim stature, about 10% of Violettens have unnatural shades of purple and violet in their hair (Hence the name).

The Violetten homeland is often called Montagnes, as it is a hilly, fertile area. About 60% of the Principauté's income is from farming, and the economy has slowly been moving towards industrialization. In 1886, a port town was built on the southern tip of the Afrain continent, providing a modest income from shipping, .

Between 1762 and 1804, the land area of Violette was controlled by one of the nations would later join the commonwealth. growing discontent between the Southerners who controlled the area, and native Violettens would lead to protests against the southern rule. These protests, and the police response to them, would lead to a short revolution. The rebel groups were united into the Principauté de Violette by Finnian the First, a statesman who ostensibly descended from the first people to settle after the fall of the Grecian Empire. Finnian enforced a system of an aristocratic parliament, and styled himself the Crown prince. His direct descendants still rule the nation today, trying to maintain a neutral political stance

-Armed Forces-

The Violetten army relies heavily on defensive fighting tactics, and has learned much on modern warfare from the skirmishes of 1904 in Icrin.

the main fighting force of Violette are still infantry, and the nation has build extensive trenchworks along its borders. Most infantry enlist for 2-year terms in peacetime, learn mostly how to fight well from inside trenches. Part of the infantry corps are machine gun units, which have 4 year enlistment terms, and are seen as an "elite" group, when compared with infantry

Infantry are equipped with the V.12, an accurate bolt action rifle.

Image
The machine gun corps are equipped with the VM.7, a magazine fed machine gun. While very reliable, it is heavy and difficult to move, especially when compared with contemporary machine guns

Image
Violette has manufactured a single tank model domestically, the VT.1 since 1918. While better armored and more mechanically reliable than other vehicles, it is lightly armed with just a VM.7, and slow, with a max speed of 10KPH. Standard fighting doctrine uses them as mobile pillboxes, supporting infantry.

Members of the Royal Family are encouraged to serve as officers. Duchess Vittoria, a younger cousin of the current Crown Prince, is no exception. She has commanded an infantry Battalion on the southern border for the last year, with distinction.

-Overview-

Since I'm missing some helmets, I can't show all of my infantry, but here's my current force. I'm planning on doubling it in size soon, so stay tuned!

Instead of hapsburg chin, you got violette ears... when will the royals learn?

It’s been a long time since I’ve been on here but so glad to see another Great War faction! Love the history and the more and we’ll have to make sure to get them added to the map on The Great War index page!

A lovely little force. WW I uniforms meeting British expeditionary forces. I wonder if something interesting could be done with those helmets.
