The Battle for the Derelict Ship - Turn 7 + 8

Post by Joshua » Tue Jun 28, 2022 10:56 pm

The penultimate turn!

Akkadians - ArchyX74

Image
The Assault Cruiser fires it's other boarding pod, determined to take the fight to the battlecruiser's decks.

Image
The Battlecruiser responds with it's anti-fighter turrets, but fails to hit the small target.

Image
Success! The boarding pod lands on the Battlecruiser's starboard side.

Image
Then the Assault Cruiser fires all available weapons into the Flying Laser Bathtub.

Image
They take off 2 more SP and the starboard 'wing'.

Image
Meanwhile, the fighters ignore the Star of Assyria and attempt to fly right past it. The Star does not return the favor, however, but thankfully all it's shots miss.

Image
The fighters successfully dock onto the derelict ship, and offload the crew.

Assyrians - Cracjaw (NPC'ed)

Image
The Star flies forward, preparing one final assault.

Image
It fires one of it's main turrets at the Battlecruiser.

Image
The shot connects, but fails to breach the Battlecruiser's armor.

Image
Then, the crew fire the Hyper Phase Cannon!!!

Image
Aimed at the Akkadians, the Cannon fires true, and although the shields do help at dampening the blow, the ship sustains some decent damage.

Image
- 1 SP

Flying Laser Bathtub - Thetrollgineer

Image

Battlecruiser commander: "Engine at full reverse!"

Image
The Battlecruiser slams into the Akkadian ship, knocking out it's main weapon and dealing further damage. -2 SP

Image
And then, the Yamato Cannon is fired!

Image
Once again, the Star of Assyria's shields connect with the plasma, but this time, they give out before absorbing the shot.

Image
The Star loses it's Hyper Phase Cannon and another SP.

Neo-Prussians - Bragallot (NPC'ed)

Image
The Dominator and Eagle move up, with the Eagle rescuing the crew from the detached bridge of the other Eagle.

Image
Unfortunately, the also fly up into range of the Battlecruiser's main turrets, which open fire.

Image
The Dominator's shields are up to the task, withstanding the barrage at the cost of only a single shield point.

Image
The Eagle, on the other hand, can't hold up under the assault, and takes some hits.

Image
A main turret is destroyed, and another SP is lost, leaving 1.

Image
Unfazed, the Neo-Prussians fire back with all they can muster.

Image
The Flying Laser Bathtub is further damaged, leaving 2 SP.

Image
In the meantime, the mobhunters fly over and engage the Akkadian cruiser, firing their torpedoes at it.

Image
Nearly defenseless without it's shields, the Assault Cruiser takes both torpedoes front and center.

Image
Ultimately dealing 2 more SP of damage.

Boarding Action:

Image
The Assault Cruiser shakes violently because of the Battlecruiser slamming into it.

Image
Three Immortals are disrupted, while the Akkadians all maintain their balance.

Akkadians

Image
Two Akkadian Marines focus fire on an Immortal.

Image
And slay him.

Image
The MAOX fires up his minigun, but fails to pierce the Terrorkhan's armor.

Image
No matter, the OTC-wielding Akkadian is up to the task.

Image
He makes quick work of his adversary.

Image
The female Marine jams her rifle while attempting to attack.

Immortals

Image
An Immortal pilot fires upon the MAOX.

Image
And due to some nice overkill, overcomes his armor and kills him.

Image
The other pilot fires at the female Marine, but misses.

Image
The shotgun guy advances and empties both barrels into the OTC soldier's face. Needless to say, he does not survive.

Image
The flamer picks himself up and torches more Akkadians.

Image
And this time, finally, an Akkadian is baked quite nicely by the flames.

Turn 8!

Battlecruiser - Thetrollgineer

Image
Not wanting to endanger it's mission, the Battlecruiser flies forward some...

Image
And then jumps out!

Image
The Terrans have left the game!

Akkadians - ArchyX74

Image
The crippled Cruiser fires every available weapon at the mobhunters, but the only shot to connect is stopped by the fighter's shields.

Image
And finally, the crew succeed in stuffing a missile with booze, and fire it at the Dominator.

Image
Unfortunately, the Dominator's anti-fighter systems destroy the missile before it can make contact.

Image
Then, the ship turns hard-a-starboard.

Image

Akkadian Captain: "This is not over, Prussians! That OT will be ours!"

Image
And with that, they fire up the engines and warp out!

Assyrians - Cracjaw (NPC'ed)

Image
The Star moves up a little bit more...

Image
And fires both turrets at the Neo-Prussians!

Image
Direct hit!

Image
The Eagle sustains even more damage.

Image
And then, having lost their commanding officer and sustained heavy damage including the loss of the main bridge, the Star of Assyria jumps out, leaving the Neo-Prussians the uncontested bad-asses in local space.

Meanwhile:

Image
A Marine takes careful aim, and fires.

Image
'dink'

Image
VA-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMM!!!

Image
The explosion kills the flamer, a pilot and the shotgun Immortal in a devastating fireball.

Image
The female marine takes the shot...

Image
And eliminates the final Immortal scum from the Akkadian ship!

Final Overviews:

Image

Image

Also Meanwhile, on Board the Battlecruiser:

Image
By the time the Akkadians managed to breach the hull, Terran Marines and Marauders had already prepared barricades and were waiting.

Image
Despite fighting fiercely and taking some Terrans with them, the whole squad ended up slaughtered.

Endgame:

Image
Seeing they were abandoned by the Assault Cruiser, all Akkadian pilots also board the derelict ship...

Image
After swinging around to pick up something, the Neo-Prussians swing in to secure their prize.

Image

Himmelsjäger: "Prepare to dock, and have Black Wolf Division on standby."

Final Overview:

Thanks everyone for playing, and I hope this was as fun for you as it was for me! I'm sorry the end had to be rushed due to a need for the battlefield space. Also, Archy, sorry more couldn't be done with the Akkadian boarding party on the Battlecruiser, I had wanted that to be played out fully.

Since this is the first time I've held a microspace battle, please give me some feedback on anything you thought was strange, overpowered or think should change! I appreciate it!

Also, Archy and Bragallot, stay tuned for Part 2, Searching the Derelict Ship. I haven't decided if I'll host it as a forum battle due to a lack of parts, but if not, it will be a long Soap Opera.

These forum battles have been the most fun I've had participating in a community effort, and this derelict battle was no exception. Fun to the very end, very well done Joshua! GG y'all, I might not have won but I'll take boarding the derelict first as an absolute win in my book.

Derp. I accidentally sent my orders to myself. Not sure how that happened.

Well, it worked out, I guess.

The battle was very good, nice overlap between boarding action and space fighting. The shot of the Assyrian bridge exploding was particularly good. Are you building a minifig-scale Venus?

Excellent! I'm glad you are having fun! Well, you still have a chance at winning, since you have the remaining crew from an Assault Cruiser and 3 pilots on the derelict ship...

Haha! Well, seeing as you still won, I guess it did work out in the end!

Thank you!

Building? No.
Already have built? Yes.

Image
Technically it's not a Venus Class Destroyer, but instead a Longinus IV-B Corvette, with some modifications.

There is no other choice. You need to do a battle with ships of that scale now, mwahahaha.

Shall I bring the my entire Assyrian army to bear as well?
Image

Well, the only other minifigure-scale ships I have are Luke's X-Wing, Palpatine's Shuttle, Obi-Wan's Fighter, a B-Wing, and my Shira-03 Starfighter. (I have a bunch of old Star Wars sets.) So, a better option would be to bring that army to bear against someone else's army.
