40K - My Tau

Post by Olothontor » Wed Jul 01, 2009 9:30 am

Please keep in mind that none of these are done. I wanted to post them for opinions on the basing, and the color scheme. They're done up in Liche Purple, Iyanden Darksun, and Boltgun Metal.

First off, there's a six-strong squadron of Gun Drones:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/12241172@N04/3677852579/" title="Gun Drones 01 by moto_bushi, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2672/367 ... 589761.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Gun Drones 01"></a>

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/12241172@N04/3678668470/" title="Gun Drones 03 by moto_bushi, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3569/367 ... 28888b.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Gun Drones 03"></a>

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/12241172@N04/3677854439/" title="Gun Drones 04 by moto_bushi, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3598/367 ... e5af9a.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Gun Drones 04"></a>

Next, a unit of 11 Fire Warriors, with Shas'ui (I'm missing one, it's supposed to be a unit of 12 all-told):

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/12241172@N04/3677855073/" title="Fire Warriors 01 by moto_bushi, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3577/367 ... 6d7068.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Fire Warriors 01"></a>

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/12241172@N04/3678671252/" title="Fire Warriors 03 by moto_bushi, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2645/367 ... dbb22a.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Fire Warriors 03"></a>

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/12241172@N04/3678671252/" title="Fire Warriors 03 by moto_bushi, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2645/367 ... dbb22a.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Fire Warriors 03"></a>

Finally, a Hammerhead, equipped with a Railgun:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/12241172@N04/3678672622/" title="Hammerhead 01 by moto_bushi, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3605/367 ... 21c426.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Hammerhead 01"></a>

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/12241172@N04/3678674002/" title="Hammerhead 03 by moto_bushi, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3541/367 ... 940906.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Hammerhead 03"></a>

Please, keep in mind (once again) that none of these models are FULLY painted. I have tons of detail work to do. Just wanted an opinion. Any 'glitches' and failures in the paint job are all things I will catch once I go over them again.

I would like to apologize for the marginally bad lighting, and the mediocre photography.

That is some pretty good Painting. The colors work well on the drones and Hammerhead, I am not sure about the warriors though...
The paint job is great though! (and <a href='http://tinyurl.com/y42zurt'>alot</a> better then I can do. :( )

How did I know you were going to be the first to post about them?

Sorry, the lighting on the Fire Warriors turned out REALLY badly... I'm not sure why, nothing changed. Oh, well. If I get around to it I might try and retake those photos. Also, I think my unit of 8 with Pulse Carbines looks better anyway.

And what of the basing on the Gun Drones?

Pretty good, but it needs something. Corpses? Corpses are good! Or maybe just a smashed part of a gun drone, or really anything. What army(s) do you play the most?

Fantasy (currently) Skaven, and 40K it's always been Tau. never played anything else. Guess I'm a bit of a fanatic.

Normally for Fantasy I play Tomb Kings.

Sorry, I meant who do you play against (40k, I mean. Putting a bretonian on your Gun drones base wouldn't make sense.)

lol. Um, a lot of things. My Dad has completed Ork, Tyranid, and Space Marine armies (not one of the Codex chapters), so it could be any of the above. There are bits from all of them except Space marines (his entire army pretty much came from the Battle for Blackreach box or whatever. So did most of his Ork army). But, yeah, PLENTY of 'Nid bits lying around all over the place. Corpses would be kinda cool. Unfortunately, I don't have time to fix the bases atm, gotta get 2000 points done by Friday for this Planetstrike kick-off party at a nearby Games Workshop store. Going with my Dad. Mom would come, but her Necrons are nowehere near done. She's a perfectionist so all of her models look fucking GORGEOUS, but that means she'll spend weeks on a single model. Plus, she's replacing the trans green with trans red and doing steampunk Necrons, so it takes even LONGER.

I like your painting style: very crisp and clean. also, a nice variant color scheme for your tau. i'd advise MOAR DAKKA! army-wise, but i advise that for everything.
Also: if you're interested, i play squats.

Whoa. I need pictures of those Necrons.
I hardly take any time on painting, I am more into the Game. Painting my Nids is simple. Spray Paint them Skull white, paint the carapace Liche Purple, Paint blades Red Gore. Then a bit of black on eyes.

My marines (Battle Scorpians, self made army) I am putting more time into, but no matter what, the Yellow always is patchy.

You can always work on the drones after Planetstrike (which looks awesome :D !!_

My Dad's scheme is similar, although he did some cool shading with it. The carapace fades from black to a brighter purple (not Liche, I forget what now). Skin is a mid-range blue with a blue ink overtop of it. Blades/teeth/whatever go from Chaos black to red gore to blood red. They look pretty nice.

And cool, Birdman, but I guess I'm unfamiliar with the terminology... squats?

dwarfs in space. really old army, got phased out because GW didn't want 40k to turn into 'FB in space'... which it did anyway.
they were cool while they lasted, but since they no longer have a codex, i have to use fan-made versions, which means no tournaments for me unless i use my 1500 points of necrons.
as an army, they were pretty badass. they had guns and tanks galore, and they had a burrowing troop transport.
EDIT: When i say 'really old', i mean 'rogue trader era'.

Yeah, I couldn't elaborate because I have a severe lack of Paint. When I started my Nids, I had Skull White, Skull white spray paint, Red Gore Liche Purple and Chaos Black. NOT FUN! With an average income of $10 a month I am hardpressed to get more paints models or anything.

Hmph. I may or may not be getting a job with Games Workshop over the summer, so EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT! Totally buying the Tau Insertion Force first thing (big box of Crisis Suits. BIG box).

@birdman: Nice! I want to see them now, they sound totally kickass.

Lucky. the closest independant retailer is a half hour drive from here, so Gaming is hard to do. The "local" Games Workshop Hobby center is an over 9 hour drive. So I don't go there ever.
I really need money, but any jobs I could do require a car, or are already taken. I need to talk to neighbors about mowing lawns, but I don't really have neighbors. The three adjecant houses are for rent, condos, or have a lawn service and are empty.
To top that off, my sister gets 10 bucks an hour to babysit, about eight hours a day, 5 days a week.

Awesome color scheme. Does your dad collect the Ordo Malleus? They are so awesome! :)
