Dr. Itô himself contributed Itô calculus, an extension of calculus using a stochastic generalization of the Riemann-Stieltjes integral to model Brownian motion and semimartingales. Many other techniques are used, such as stochastic calculus and Monte Carlo methods, with more recent models addressing the deficiencies of the original Black-Scholes models such as the volatility smile.
