New page

Colette postulated three basic laws of FTL motion in the BrikVerse to handwave away otherwise-obvious plot holes:

1. Most FTL drives don't work across true intergalactic distances, like outside Nehellium and its satellite galaxies. (This explains why all the action takes place in Nehellium)

2. FTL can be blocked, and often is to protect homeworlds and core systems (This explains why Brik Wars happen instead of, say, bombing the other guy's homeworlds).

3. FTL speed is roughly inversely related to mass- small shuttles can cross the galaxy in a matter of hours, while large dreads will move like a tug.

Like all good physical laws in the BrikVerse, however, these can all be circumvented with sufficiently-advanced technology (or magic). Famous exceptions exist to the first law (Immortals and M-Throne, as well as Trattoria and Praetoria, all possess true intergalactic travel). The second law exists mainly to encourage drawn-out campaigns filled with awesome battles, but is violated when it is more awesome to do so (the TA's use of Der Vorsprung in the First Battle of New York being a notable example). The third law can be refined by taking power into consideration- a tiny tugship with shitty engines will still be slow, while an intergalactic ship with a massive frame to supports its massive drive would be fast.
