BrikSpace!

Post by Olothontor » Wed Jun 24, 2009 5:06 pm

This is (or was) the sign-up thread for (Olothontor's version of) BrikSpace, for purposes of the forum battle inventory.

Round 1

Round 2

Thanks to Almighty Benny, I am convinced that this is the way to go to get BrikSpace off the ground, and fix any problems in the ruleset. There are two slots, first come, first served.

The BrikSpace rules can be found here.

WARNING:
Be aware that you're getting yourself into some playtesting. BrikSpace is not a legitimate game as of yet, I'm still working out bugs, and adding in new things as I go along. It might be a bit slow, especially as we try to figure out combat, and some of the rules may need to be completely overhauled in the middle of the game. Be prepared for that sort of thing happening, and please don't complain about it... whatever happens, happens. There is an update/developmental thread under Bonus Material; any blaring mistakes or bugs you notice can go in there, I'll check there as often as I do here.

Here are your three factions (remember, first come, first served):

-The Reavers (yes, from Serenity. I made some cool microscale Reaver ships that I've been dying to use) are ready to snuggle, pillage, burn, maime, and destroy (not necessarily in that order). (played by Irdofbricks)

-SubSpacial Police Enforcement (the S.S.P.E) have emerged to deal with both of the menaces! (played by Almighty Benny, co-captained by MasterEcabob)

-The Ancients (old undead from a nuked planet who come back en mass, and have developed enough to have reached the peak of technological advancement) have shown up, threatening to avenge their unexpected and surprisingly violent nuclear assault. (played by Bonn-o-tron)

Now, the best part: you get to make your own fleet! Each player must have one Frigate, two Cruisers, and a Destroyer, using the rules posted above. Other than that, go wild!

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, be sure to let me know here so that I don't put you down for a position :)[/url]

Right! So, we're down to one slot: The Ancients.

Thanks for joining, by the way. I'm glad to have you on the team, so to speak :)

Hey, nice to see you again, Bonn-O-Tron. Alrighty, then. I'll set us up a battelfield. You guys get me those fleet stats and we'll get right on down into the nit and grit of it. Remember; one Frigate, two Cruisers, and a Destroyer.

Also, please keep in mind... I've never hosted a Forum Battle before, so if I trip up on any of the specifics, let me know, please? I'd love to not make mistakes every time I try to do this.

Just make sure to set a strict due date for orders so that the game doesn't slow down when one guy gets lazy/goes away for vacation/gets arrested/etc.

Also I look forward to seeing how this style of brikspace compares with TBD's version. Your version seems less complicated and more exciting, but TBD's version had boarding action, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see which one is better.

Good luck!

Thanks for the good wishes!

Who's this TBD person? May I talk to him? Maybe we can put our heads together :)

I'm referring to TheBlackDog, you can see his battle here

His rules included missiles, shields, boarding parties, and orbital strikes but revised the use system and the movement system as to make it more realistic.

It worked out fine in the end but his rules are basically the 2001 rules to your 2005 rules; while both are great his tend to appeal more to hardcore wargammers while yours appeal more to people who want to blast microships to pieces with other microships.

Okay, cool. I was on back when he introduced us to his first drafts. Never realized it took off. Good for him!

But I'll keep working on it, and hopefully I'll live up to those expectations. We'll see where it goes.

Also, Almight Benny has given you a chance to join in on this game. He wants you to be a sort of co-captain, to give his orders for him when he can't send in his own. Wanna join in the playtesting fun?

Working as a second in command to Almighty Benny? Awesome!

My thoughts exactly :D

Alright, I've finished construction of the actual fleets. The SSPE are dark grey, dark red, and yellow. The Ancients are black and fluorescent green. The Reavers are... well, all over the place. Dark, in general. Random browns and oranges.

Anywho, I do apologize for the fact that I ran out of flight bases, so most of the Ancients are lying flat on the ground. I also apologize for the fact that most of the ships are hollow shells of what would be ships if I had more pieces and time. I tried to spruce them up as best as possible.

I should have pictures up tomor- erm, TODAY (it's midnight over here, been working since 9 on these fleets) at some point. Until then, don't forget your fleet lists (Almight Benny and Ecabob, you can collaborate on yours if you want to).

Alright, I've had an epiphany. I'm thinking make this not just a single forum battle, but a series of battles. We'll give it an epic storyline, I'll come up with cool scenarios to keep you guys involved, and between battles the fleets (possibly) come under the control of a new player! And that way, we'll rotate players, give lots of people a chance to try out the rules, see how they like it, and have a better chance of expanding on the game itself and making it all around better for other people!

EDIT: Oops, I was so excited I double posted. Oh, well...
