* Royal residents *

The Bloodguard ran to the door leading to the west wall when the alarm came from there hoping he'd be able to ward off disaster.

The knights also began to lead the brat to the east wall.
Brat: "Can't I fight?"
Knight: "When you learn to swing your sword without cutting down your own guards, yes, your highness."

The Paladin remained at the gate and started meditating... at a time like this?
* Phineus' horde *

Phineus tried to blow some of the defenders off the walls, and succeeded the feat!

... but I rolled to see how many guys it would affect and only one was flung off the wall.

Bulls are tough bastards, and he survived the fall even though he was disrupted.

The undead sprinted and the ladder smashed into the wall!

Those on the other side got a crit or two even some even made it to the top of the ladder!

One of the lances on the ladders nearly served its purpose of wiping out a defender, but the Bull heroically defended himself against it with his shield and survived even though the force was enough to send him crashing against the wall.

The ranged skeletons let loose...

Arrows slashed into the crossbowmen on the walls, killing two.

The undead crocodiles slided off of the walls and moved out.

The Bitchy Witches gained a sudden interest in the zombies. However their attempt to teleport them onto the walls where they could wreak havoc failed.

The undead elite forces then followed after the main horde of skeletons.

The giant slammed his massive fist into the portcullis, and it wasn't certain it would be able to withstand another blow.
* Bull garrison *

Those in range all aimed at the new threat: the dragon.

Dragons make big targets and should perhaps be given more armour as a consequence in future games, but the crossbowmen also simply scored well on their damage rolls, and the dragon was killed.

A lot of rolls were made (how the dragon would fall, whether or not the necromancess would be able to bail out of there, the damage rolls) but the necromancess got unlucky on each one of them and was crushed beneath her mount and the stone surface.

Aware of the great threat the shadows still posed, the phalanx lined up to defend. The one who had survived the explosion only managed to get up and arm himself, but he felt fortunate enough to at least still be alive.

Angrix sent his reserve, the heavies, to make sure the west wall wouldn't fall. One guy attempted to sprint but there's only so much you can do wearing such thick armour.

Angrix himself ran up to the battlements...

And launched himself from them!

The feat failed, and he took a pretty hard fall from that height.

Angrix barely survived: he's down to 1 HP and disrupted.

The gate guards left the defence of the gate up to the paladin and moved towards the west wall as well.

A crossbow bolt bored itself into the ground right next to one of the Bitchy Witches. Next, one struck her but failed to kill.

She then started bitching incessantly at the criminals targeting her.

Valarius climbed the ladder up to the battlements, eager to get a better shot in. He had been ordered to shoot Phineus but the necromancer was out of range, so there was only one thing to do...

Get to higher ground!

Doh! He's still out of range! Valarius could spot Phineus' self-satisfied smirk even at this distance.

Finally the crossbowman awoke from a terrible nightmare, only to land in a new one. Uh-oh...
* Dweller garrison *

The Dwellers moved on towards the castle. A ballista was positioned to fire at the approaching wraiths while the bladed ballista thundered on.

Speaking of which; the ballista managed to put down one of the wraiths.

Lr scaled the bridge and fired his repeating crossbow - a prize he had received for catching the Falx spies currently locked up in the castle's cells - and tried to make it fire even more than twice in this short span of time. He failed, however, and it jammed after the first shot was fired.
Then on the edge of the battlefield, two figures came into view...
Secret faction activated * 'Deserters' *

They were Sir Garth and Lord Xalen from Kerrat, both respected commanders and famed warriors in their own right. Still, it was very strange to see Kerrattians come so far North. And why on earth weren't their famed knights at their side?
The horses moved forward hesitantly in spite of Garth's best efforts as they came upon the battle and Xalen's attempt at disrupting the enemy spellcasters failed.
* Wraiths *

The Shadows darted over the walls and past the phalanx in order to get to the crossbowmen without a fight.

They fell just far of reaching them, but especially the leader got pretty close nevertheless.

The rest of the wraiths charged up to the bridge and fired their headgems. Most were aimed at Lr, but a few also at the man-at-arms to his right.

The man-at-arms was obliterated and so would Lr have been if it hadn't been for the other mat-at-arms at his side, who pushed him aside and redshirted.

One wraith suffered a weapon malfunction: his head gem exploded into his face as he tried to fire it but luckily for him he survived the blast.

After reloading their guns the rest of the Starcapes moved up.
And meanwhile, while the battle was raging too hard and everyone was more than busy trying to stay alive for anyone to notice...

... a strange portal appeared.

Out stepped a heavily-armoured man.

Followed by more wearing similar outfits.

Holy crap
Secret faction activated * Falx Expeditionary Forces * !!!

"ALL HAIL THE REPUBLIC!" declared the mounted warrior. Count Palomar, flanked by his elite bladestaff guards, was the aristocratical leader of the invasion, but their real hero was the 100 percent patriotic and only 25 percent sane Lord Vendetta, the armoured knight on the horse.

Not worried about reprisal the crossbowmen went after the starcapes. Apparently repeating crossbows were standard equipment amongst the Falx legions.

And their technology appeared to serve a clear purpose: many bolts cut into the starcapes, the most lightly armoured wraiths, but still, from behind and grounded them to dust.

Lord Vendetta wasted no time to close his visor and charge, bearing a fierce battlecry.

His lance ripped the wraith's head off before it realized what was going on.

The swordsmen charged the cart approaching their flank dauntlessly.

... and count Palomar and his guard moved through the centre unhindered.
