Magura's Mercenaries, Battlemech

Post by Fedora » Wed Oct 06, 2010 3:54 pm

First, hello! :D This is essentially my first post besides all that "introduce yerself" stuff, and I wanted to include my army and my first mech.
Second, here is my current Army, and their BattleMech, the minifig-scale WTO - 14 Wotan. They're called Magura's Mercenaries for now, til I can think of a better name than the standard "______'s Mercenaries."

Image

In this next photo, you can see all the members of Magura's mercenaries, which specializes in fast light strike operations and infiltration. The minifig on the right wearing a neurohelmet is Captain Magura himself. The guy to his left is the group's MechWarrior, and he along with the current pilot of the mech make up the group's three 'mech pilots. The dude in sunglasses is your standard Special Ops type / assassin. He is pretty hardcore and wears his sunglasses at night. Guy wearing the bandana is the group's disgruntled ex-Clanner Elemental, who lost a Trial of Position in Clan Wolf and chose exile over the Periphery. I have yet to make him some BattleArmor to be useful in. The next two are Alistair (All- Star) and Rob, and they are the group's aerospace pilots. Finally, the last three are John, Steve, and Steve. They are the foot soldiers/ mechanics, and work on the Aerotech fighters and the Wotan.

Image

Legs. Standard joints were a pain to work with because the torso is so damn heavy.

Image

Side view of the Rotary Autocannon-20, or RAC-20. This is Clan Hell's Horses tech tweaked slightly for the Wotan's proprietary belt-feed system. The belt-feed modification greatly increases reliability of the problem-child RAC system and allows for greater reliance on it. In previous incarnations, it was unusable as a primary weapon because of its jamming and ammo problems. The belt-feed does make the Wotan more vulnerable to internal ammo explosions. As everyone in Magura's Mercenaries will tell you, however, it looks badass as hecks. Ammo explosions are rarely a problem in dropship fast-attack missions anyway.

Image

Here's a side view of the Wotan's Extended range Particle Projection Cannon. This model is outfitted with linked capacitors for greater rate of fire; however, this modification increases heat buildup, which is rarely a problem with the Wotan's ballistics-based weaponry. Also shown is the Wotan's rare SRM-8 (SRMs usually come in groups of 6 or less).

Image

Here's a rear view of the Wotan, where you get a good look at its massive rear heat sink panel. You can also see the leg-mounted Jump Jets. These serve mainly to dampen the healthy fall out of a dropship, but can be used creatively for Death from Above-type maneuvers.

Image

Here's a frontal view. In this picture, you can see the six Heavy Machine Guns mounted on the torso, used for close-in and anti-infantry work. You also get a good view of the LRM-8 pack mounted in the missile pod above the cockpit. Just above the long-range missile pack is the communications array, and an anti-'mech flamer, which is especially potent against mechs using energy weapons. Where the legs meet the torso, you can see two anti-infantry Extended Range Small Pulse Lasers.

Image

Now I know what you're all asking by now: "But why did you build an assault 'mech for a scout or medium 'mech's job?" Well, the answer is this. If you wanted to make a massive über-ultra-mech, would it be a scout 'mech?
I also have some weapons, tiny airspeeders, etc. for MM, but I think I'll include those when I actually finish some BattleArmor for the Elemental or some aerospace fighters for the pilots.

Thanks guys! Actually, I built the autocannon before anything else. Was originally going to be lazy and make it a turret, then this happened.

Oh, but how could he not.

Excellent mech, I like how you built the legs.
How easy is it to get minifigs in and out of it?

She's a beauty- I like the missile rack in particular (the one by the particle cannons)

Furthermore, I wholeheartedly support this application of MechWarrior to Brikwars.

AWESOME! New BattleTech fan! :D
Great mech dude, the AC is my favorite. I would suggest you slightly bulk up your legs and joints. Is it stable?

Also, take a look at my HellRaider and Natalyas amazing Armoured Core

It's pretty dang stable, I just wish I could make it more poseable. Before I bulked up a little bit on the legs, it tipped over a lot. Now you can twist the torso around, do whatevs with the arm joints, etc. but It's pretty much stuck in upright position, at least 'til I try to pose it :D

I would have doubled up on the snap joints, but I didn't have enough :(
In fact, where the shins (for lack of a better term) connect the feet, one of the connectors is still black and the other is brown :P

It's main weakness is, yes, you have to take apart the cockpit assembly to get the pilot inside X3

I have indeed seen Natalya's AC, it seems to be a legend here, and rightly so...
how is it so huuuge O.o

That hellraider is super cool! It reminds me of a Cougar or some kind of custom mad dog. :D:D:D:D

I am currently working on a cougar.

Well, when you start building big, lots of issues come up.
can't w8 for that Cougar.
Also, I think the AC-20 is the Ballistic weapon type. The real name of the weapon is Gauss Rifle/Gun/Cannon/whatever...

Now that is the definition of 'more dakka' in robot form. I'd hate to be on the recieving end of its attacks. Fantastic mech. ^_^

Actually, inspiration for this mech was around 3 parts "more dakka" and 1 part "d00d battletech."

The Cougar I am currently working on is much more canon. I have an altered schedule at school because of medical complications, so I have wayyy more time for Legos. The Coug has practically built itself, as my other Mechwarrior needs a scout mech and I've devoted about 10 hours a day the past couple days to it- I should be finished within the week.
